Today, West Park is an unincorporated community located within Polk County limits but has several functioning businesses including a grocery store, restaurant, barbershop/ Beauty Salon, auto dealership and library. The name "West Park" originated from when two families who were friendly with each other called each other "Park." One family's children often played together near their home on State Road 637 east of town; so they continued to call their home "Park" even though they no longer resided there themselves.. When one family moved away (probably because they became too closely associated with another nearby settlement), the other family took up the call for their home which gradually became known as "West Park."

West Park, Florida is a town in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. The population was 8,629 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Petersburg–Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. West Park was founded in 1892 as Jacksonville Landing by shipbuilders John and Edwin Ladd and their families as a landing for passengers on the then-new Tampa Bay Railway. The town grew rapidly due to its location on a navigable body of water close to both Tampa and St Petersburg, which led to its nickname "The Venice of the Gulf." In 1905, West Park became an incorporated village with a board of trustees which included J.D. Power and Co., who built land for the city's first municipal hospital and park on what is now First Avenue North. West Park's growing popularity inspired similar settlements throughout Pinellas County; by 1913 there were 11such towns in Pinellas County alone. In 1924, when West Park became a city under charter form from a merger of two villages (East Lake Terrace and West Park), electric streetlights replaced gaslights at nightfall following decades of complaints about how difficult it was to see at night without light fixtures. By 1939, all businesses had been electrified with Edisonian bulbs while streetcar lines served only limited areas outside downtown; electricity became standard in most homes by 1954 with the installation of modern lights and equipment that could be turned off completely if desired or left unplugged during periods of darkness (the original switchgear had been installed in 1922). The City Council chose not to install streetcars until 1957 after studies showed they were no longer necessary given the increase in commuter traffic via highways such as US 301/State Road 12 connecting Clearwater Beach through West Park to St Petersburg; today buses serve much of downtown instead providing access from east side streets into central business district areas free after 6 p.m., when cars are allowed onto State Road 12 southbound only for residents or those using Taxisudor services Accordingly, after becoming one municipality within Pinellas County (and since 1965 having its own police department) as well as being home to both Hillsborough Community College (established 1961) – one of South Florida's earliest public colleges –WestPark has seen steady growth over time culminating in present day 8,629 residents according to 2010 census estimates
