According to the 2010 US Census report*, West Park had a population of 4,752 people living within its borders–a decrease from 5,098 counted during 2000 but an increase from 3,792 counted during 1990. Of these residents: 93% describe themselves as Hispanic or Latino; 82% identify as black or African American; and 71% identify as white or Caucasian

West Park, Florida was founded on August 20, 1922 by E.B. White and his wife Gertrude in the town of Belle Glade. The name of the town derived from a small park located east of the post office that was known as "The Grove". The white family had purchased 120 acres (45 hectares) of land east of Belle Glade and began to build homes. In 1941, West Park became a city after it was annexed by Miami Beach. In 1951, West Park voters passed a bond issue which funded various projects such as streetlights and public transportation. That same year, the Mayor William Hixon dedicated a new pool and gymnasium in honor of Miami Dolphins players Don Shula and Joe Namath. In 1978, West Park voters passed another bond issue which funded shopping malls, restaurants, hospitals and other services within the city limits. In 1992, when South Florida was merged intoMiami-Dade County, West Park became part of Miami Beach again. Despite this change in status, both cities continue to maintain close ties with each other through events like flag raising ceremonies at City Hall or annual football games between the two teams.
West Park, Florida was founded in 1864 as a cattle ranch. The first post office was established at West Park in 1865. In 1872, the citrus industry became a major factor in the growth of West Park. A new citrus orchard was built on the east side of town in 1903 and continued to be used until 1976. In 1924, the first street name in West Park was North Avenue.
