The first high school for students in West Park opened its doors on September 17, 1924; today's Coral Gables High School is the town's only high school that serves students throughout its entire downtown area east of US 27 (the old alignment of I-95). Since then WTP has continued to grow through annexations from neighboring towns: North Fort Myers annexation on December 15, 1959; Sunrise annexation on October 3rd 1974; Miramar annexation on November 2nd 1978; Belle Glade annexation on January 4th 1984; North Pinellas annexation on April 5th 1990 On July 2nd 1909 two Methodists from Kentucky walked into what would become West Park while they preached their new religion outside a vacant lot near Northeast Seventeenth Street& Second Avenue adjacent to Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge #1 - now Palm Beach Post Office building - they left behind 168 homeschooled children along with seeds for another church congregation that same year called First Baptist Church ofWest Park & Hialeah which began services within one week’s time & soon built additions onto their original home – now known as First Methodist Episcopal Church - & dedicated themselves “to evangelism among all classes” & opened their doors Nov 9th 1911 inside what is now Coral Gables High School gymnasium @ Eighth Avenue NE First Baptist Church OfWestPark open enrollment era begun !!

West Park was founded in 1866 by Dr. Benjamin Franklin Park and his wife Anna Maria. The first post office in West Park was created in 1868, and the first school was opened in 1870. In 1886, West Park became a city and the name of the city changed to Gainesville. In 1907, Gainesville incorporated as a town and West Park became its center. In 1932, Gainesville became an inner-city municipality and West Park lost its status as the civic center of the city.
