In 1904, West Park was a small town in Broward County, Florida. It had a population of around 100 people and consisted of just a few businesses. The town center was located on the corner of Santa Fe Avenue and Meridian Street. In 1907, the West Park post office was established and it remained in operation until 1959. In 1915, the first rifle range in Broward County was opened at West Park by Colonel Edwin A. Armstrong. The first hunting season for deer in Florida was held in 1916 at West Park from October 15 to November 2nd. In 1922, the first air gun shooting event took place at West Park with fifty rifles taking part from October 15 to November 2nd. West Park became an air-quality control station in 1945 after being used as such for over twenty years before that date. On December 5th, 1957, local resident George Bivens placed an R8 machine gun on top of a power line outside of his home to show support forBroward County's candidate for Governor Ralph Yarborough during the Miami Beach primary election campaign against incumbent Manuel Jupiter
West Park is a community in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 5,644 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami Beach-Ft. Lauderdale Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "West Park" came about because it was on a parcel of land that had been set aside for people who lived in Westchester County, New York. The first settler in what would become West Park was Edwin Ladd who purchased the land from the Government of Spanish Cuba in 1892. In 1906, Edward Whelan bought property east of town and developed it into what is now known as "Whelan's Heights". In 1912, C.Vaughn Steele developed land to the west of town and named it "Steele's Prairie". That same year, much of what is now downtownWestParkwasraised by Jerald Fenton as part of his development for Southwest Airways Company which later became United Airlines In 1969, City Council voted to change the name to West Park due to its location on more than one occasion having been called both "Newland" and "Tinker's Grove". A referendum approved changing the name again in 1984 but only lasted six months before being repealed due to lack of support from residents In 1990, Mayor Reuben Jacobs announced that he would like to see WestPark renamed after Drs. Martin Luther King Jr., Jr., and Coretta Scott King That same year also saw the opening of a parkade adjacent to I-95 that provided parking for thousands upon thousands vehicles each day On January 28th, 2006 Mayor Jacobs announced plans for a new shopping center at 95th Street and Northwest First Avenue which will include over 200 stores including Macy's、 Sears、 JCPenney、 Dress Barn.—The largest mall in Southwest Florida—along with three football fields which will be used as an open air training field for local high school teams

West Park is a small town in Seminole County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Hollywood, FL Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "West Park" was given to it by local residents in 1929 as a way of distinguishing it from other towns in Seminole County with similar names such as Winter Park and Ocala. The first settler in West Park was J.C. Overstreet who arrived in 1903 and built a cabin on the banks of Clearwater River. A post office called West Park was established in 1909, but never opened because of financial difficulties. In 1912, the East Central Railway donated land near present-day Civic Center for a train station and community center that would serve the townspeople and surrounding area. This station served as the nucleus of what is now known as West Park Village today. In 1923, developer Milton Hargrave developed an agricultural district that included parts of what are now West Park Village and Osceola Heights neighborhoods along Lake Calhoun north of State Road 9A (now US- 27). His development became known as "The Grove", which soon after spawned several other development districts including The Lakeside Shopping District and The Hills Country Club District which continue to exist to this day within South Kissimmee's city limits despite being outside city boundaries since 1959 when South Kissimmee incorporated into Orlando . In 1928, during construction on Fort Harrison State Hospital on Northwest First Street between Interstate 495 and SR- 191 (the current site of Universal CityWalk),Local voters approved $1 million bond issue to build hospital with 675 beds instead of 50 new medical buildings then proposed by planners due to high cost without guarantees for future services or revenue sharing . Work began on hospital on October 25th 1928 under direct supervision of then Lieutenant Colonel John Ladd , Commander United States Army WWII Florida World War II veteran who had previous experience building military hospitals overseas .. Construction completed four years later on May 10th 1934 with 1,200 surgical patients treated over three months at two hospitals located at Red Lobster Casino across from US Naval Air Station Jacksonville - one serving American troops fightingWWII European combat while another providing care for wounded German forces returned from their war effort .. On October 11th 1938 after more than four years gestation finally Veterans Administration freehold title transferred from Military Corp ownership to municipality thru deed from Miranda Geebecke widowof Drs . George Troup her husband Alain Geebecke donated land adjacent to original power Plant & water tower nearby renamed “ fort Harrison” west park village began operations
