West Melbourne is a city located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. It is the most populous municipality in Miami-Dade and the third most populous city in South Florida. The population of West Melbourne was Christmastime 2017 estimated to be over 77,000 people and it's projected to grow by an additional 20,000 people during 2018 alone. West Melbourne borders Overtown on the south and north, Miracle Mile on the east, Kendall on the west and Biscayne Boulevard on the north. The cityscape has been designed by architects such as Iban Sexton who specializes in Mediterranean Revival architecture which reflects its Spanish roots. The history of West Melbourne dates back to 1892 when brothers Alvaro Diaz and Manuel Diaz founded what would become known as Pembroke Park Estate after purchasing 1,500 acres (5 km2) of land near today's intersection of Northwest 156th Street and SW 164th Avenue. At that time Pembroke Park consisted only of two small houses and several gardens with a population size numbering under 100 inhabitants. Two years later in 1894 Diego Rivera painted his mural "The Masks" at Pembroke Park which still remains one of Miami’s most iconic artworks today. In 1907 entrepreneur Amedeo Modigliani purchased 320 acres (12 km2) adjacent to Pembroke Park from William McKinley for $1 million dollars making him one of Miami’s wealthiest men at that time. modigliani soon put his money into real estate investments became one of South Floridas leading developers while also becoming involved in local politics serving as Mayor from 1933 until his death in 1947). AfterModigliani's death his son Guido Modigliani took over development operations at Pembroke Park Estates becoming one of South Floridas first Hispanic mayors; he served until 1963 when he was succeeded by Rosalind Arditi who held office until her death in 2003. In 1948 developer Harry Kolb bought 95% controlling interest from Guido Modigliani with plans for developing high rises along Biscayne Boulevard overlooking Key Biscayne Naval Air Station; however this project never progressed past planning stages due to financial difficulties faced by Kolb during post World War II austerity measures affecting many industries throughout South Florida - Kolb would go bankrupt shortly thereafter unable to repay any loans totaling $48 million dollars incurred during 1945-1948! This left Kolb with just 8 acres (3 km2) adjoining KBCN TV Studios located at Northwest Second Avenue & NW 163rd Street undeveloped which he utilized as part of his house estate called "Kolb Manor". In 1958 developer John Waddell purchased Kolbs parcel comprising approximately 12 sq mi² (270 hectares or 690 acres) surrounding KBCN TV Studios & used it as part of construction plans for the much larger "Wedding Belles" shopping center now anchored by Sears Holding Corporation & JCPenney anchor stores immediately adjacent! Waddell designated Novartis Pharmaceuticals Headquarters Building ("Novartis Tower") within this development as well as numerous other commercial/residential structures housing various offices/landmarks associated with Novartis Incorporated including: Research Laboratories; Human Resources Department; Distribution Centers etc.. Today Novartis Tower is home to both Sears Holdings Corporation (& JCPenney anchors stores) & Prudential Financial Corp.(formerly insurance giant American Reinsurance Company) having been renovated between 2009-2013 resulting in an increase surface area totalling 545,000 sq ft (+25%) !! Although originally conceived as a single flagship store suffixing all other Novartis buildings occupants are now divided among 2 dozen separately managed subsidiary headquarters situated throughout South Florida providing ample space for employee parking garages & meeting spaces!! ). However despite extensive redevelopment efforts by various stakeholders resultant mixed results with continuing negative publicity involving City Council members Recreational Vehicles Parking Garage access has continues indefinitely!! ). Consequently residents have long complained about intermittent issues w/access TO their municipally owned property while concurrently enjoying discounted rates on privately owned properties within walking distance!!! ). although periodically main streets are closed temporarily due To heavy traffic congestion caused BY ¶¶ Congestion pricing schemes institutedvia §¶ TxAOD §§¶ enacted subsequentto 2005 annexation thereof... projects like #BoulevardWalk have helped alleviate some but not allof ¶¶ ¶ Congestion ), however they cannot completely solve ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓

The city's first growth came due to its location on State Road 10A, one of two major routes connecting Jacksonville with Miami and Key Biscayne. When Interstate 95 was built in the early 1990s, State Road 10A became an important artery for truckers travelling between Jacksonville and Miami-Dade County. In 2001, developers built One Park Plaza, a mixed-use development that includes 154 luxury apartments and four hotels overlooking the Miami River. The $1 billion project was Arizona Diamondbacks owner Jeffrey Loria's largest investment ever in Florida and has been praised for its design features such as rain gardens and green roofs. In 2007, Mayor Tom Bradley announced plans to build a new stadium for the NFL's Miami Dolphins next to One Park Plaza; construction began in 2009 but has not yet finished
West Melbourne is located in Flagler County, Florida and is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1892 by a group of Irish immigrants who had arrived in America on the ship "Donnelly". The original West Melbourne post office was established in 1893. In 1906, the community became part of Jacksonville when it was annexed by that city.
