Huggins erected his own stand on State Road 7 near present-day Midtown. This stand featured large wooden targets with cloth covers that could be hit from great distances. In 1916, John Prentice started selling target holders specifically designed for shooting at waterfowl overhangs (known then as “ponds”). These holders resembled modern Target Devices and were made from two posts with a crossbar attached to each end. A hole was drilled into one side of the post and a small wader or dovetailed rod inserted into the other side, allowing it to hold up to 16 inches of water while being used as a target holder. By 1922, there were several stands operating in West Melbourne which employed both amateur and professional shooters alike. One such stand was operated by Sam Morey which featured 20 fully adjustable metal plates whose height could be changed along with its width (a feature not found on most today’sTarget Holders). To make things even more challenging for shooters, Morey also had 13 Hydraulic Cushion Targets which allowed him to move his targets around without having them fall off their perch! In 1928, Morey sold his business to Easley brothers who continued operation until 1933 when they closed down due to financial difficulties. The following year saw the construction of another large stand by Jens Hansen which still remains extant today within Block B on State Road 5A - home to numerous local firearms enthusiasts today! The Hansen Stand featured 30 electrically adjustable metal plates that could be moved about in any direction while providing plenty of firepower for those looking to take on precision shots! Furthermore, Hansen boasted 4 Hydraulic Cushion Targets which gave shooters the ability to positions their targets anywhere within range without ever leaving their comfort zone! This stand quickly became popular among locals and visitors alike and lasted until 1941 when it was destroyed by Hurricane Hazel. On October 14th 1921 – just four months after Jens Hansen had inaugurated his newest stand – tragedy struck when James Laughlin died suddenly during lunch hour while working on his own Stand next door… marking the first time anyone had been killed directlyrelatedto Shooting at Sporting Events in West Melbourne! In 1932, Reginald Saltzman opened what would become known as Saltzman’s Barbecue Place adjacent to Hansen’s Stand using some extra lot space he had lying around…….. subsequently becoming one of West Melbourne’s favorite tourist destinations during its early days! West Melbourne, Florida is a small town in the Miami-Dade County, Florida region. The population was 1,871 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Sawgrass Bayou. The community began as a post office called West Melbourne in 1907. In 1916, it became a city and has since grown to become one of Miami-Dade's most populous cities with over 100,000 residents. West Melbourne's history dates back to 1907 when the post office was founded in the town by John A. Westbrook and his wife Emma Ladd Westbrook. They named their new town after their home country of Victoria, Australia - something that may have been inspiration for their choice of name given that Victoria had no resident connection to Miami-Dade County at that time. The first structure built in West Melbourne was an old house which served as its headquarters until 1914 when Mayor Harry Ladd donated land on which the present day City Hall was erected. On October 24th 1917, Mayor Ladd dedicated Broward High School - then Broward Middle School - which would serve as West Melbourne's only high school until 1959 when South Shore High School opened nearby and eventually supplanted Broward High School as West Melbourne's sole high school campus; however, both schools continue to be used occasionally for extracurricular events or special occasions such as graduations or funerals due to their historical importance within the community (e.g., local historian Wally Ratcliffe attended both classes during his undergraduate years). The Grades 6-12 years old were divided between two elementary schools: Stonington Elementary (grades K-3) located behind City Hall east of SW Second Street while Holy Rosary (4-6) remained located behind City Hall south of 3rd Avenue & north of 4th Street until 1954 when all grades were consolidated into one large facility under instruction by Father Angelo Pontello until 1979 when Holy Rosary reopened separately again serving grades K-2 thru 8 with updated facilities including computer labs & several outdoor play areas for kids during summer months prior to reopening fall semester under instruction once again by Father Pontello before being closed completely in 2002 due largely to lack of funding from state government & cohesiveness among various religious groups within city limits since original church construction days some 50+ years ago! . . . In 1957 an addition known locally as "The Ark" was added onto SW Second Street just west of current day University Placerest Road (& next door neighbor Stonington Elementary), becoming home not only for WMIU programming but also numerous private events throughout year long!
