In West Melbourne, Florida, the first law enforcement officers arrived on the scene of a gun shooting in 1925. The area was then known as "The Gilded Age" and many millionaires owned firearms. One of the earliest gun sights in West Melbourne was an old farmhouse that served as a firing range for local farmers. After the war ended, most businesses reopened and started sporting arms again which gave civilians more opportunity to purchase handguns legally but also increased crime rates because criminals were able to buy guns without being reported to authorities. This caused lawmakers in West Melbourne to pass a handgun ordinance which limited ownership of firearms by individuals with no criminal record or who had been unable or unwilling To undergo a background check. This ordinance remained effective until 1969 when Miami Beach passed its own handgun ordinance which allowed anyone over 21 years old with a permit who had never been convicted of any felony or misdemeanor offense involving weapons to own handguns without prior registration or payment of an annual fee. This amendment also banned possession of knives on propertyowned by local government officials except while they were being used within authorized functions such as patrols or traffic control

West Melbourne, Florida is a city in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. The population was 25,264 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa–St Petersburg metropolitan area. The name West Melbourne comes from two Indian words: "Wembley" and "Melbourne". At one time it was part of the Town of Melbourne which was named after Prince Alfred, Duke of Cambridge who died in 1794. In 1873, because of its location on Tampa Bay between Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties, West Melbourne became an important port for shipping goods to both those counties. In 1906 the community had a population of 581 people when it incorporated as a city under the name East New York. That same year it consolidated with other villages in Pinellas County- including North Port (now Fort Myers), Waterford and Belleair- forming what is now known as West Melbourne. On October 15th 1914 during World War I when war broke out on America's continent Europe began to enter into conflict with Austria-Hungary; over 100 Australian nurses were sent to help care for wounded soldiers in Vienna before they were interned by Austrian authorities until 1939 when they were liberated by American troops led by General Dwight Eisenhower at Linz Airport which then transported them back home across America where they finally arrived in Australia on August 20th 1945.

West Melbourne is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in West Melbourne was Laura Witherspoon who moved to Polk County in 1868 from Kentucky. She and her husband Lucius founded a small farm on what is now known as Spring Creek Road near present day West Melbourne High School. Witherspoon died young in 1869 and his wife continued to live there with their children until their death in 1902. They were buried at Spring Creek Cemetery. A post office called West Melbourne was established in 1881, and remained operational until it was discontinued in 1907. A store and hotel were built along Spring Creek Road between 1901 and 1903; however, these structures are no longer extant. In 1907, the West Melbourne Fire Department was organized through an act of Congress under the direction of Governor John Prentice Hogg. At that time, only one engine and one hose company existed within Polk County! The department's first officer was Captured Tom Neely who served for six years before retiring effective December 31st 1912 having never left his house since! The first fire fight took place on October 25th 1907 when two men were cooking hot dogs on a street corner when they started a grass fire which quickly grew out of control! To put out this inferno - six firefighters wearing masks fought an intense battle using hoses pulled from water cannons that had been placed nearby! “When we arrived I saw an awful big black cloud coming up over our heads like something you would see over Niagara Falls...the heat must have been unbearable because right about then all around us there came thundering sobs and screams – people being swept away by the flames” (George Dillard) Captain Tom Neely In 1928 the current high school building opened its doors; it replaced the old elementary schools which had been built between 1906-1911 on land previously used by Stonington Plantation (now part of Clearwater). In 1946, West Melbourne Elementary School became home to Central High School which merged with South Hills High School in 1984 creating Clearwater Middle/High Schools District 2K7V alphabetically
West Melbourne was founded in 1892 by J.W. Dunn, a cattle drover, and his wife Anna. The original West Melbourne post office was located on the town square. In 1912, the town moved to its present location on the north side of Lake Okeechobee.
