The history of West Melbourne dates back to 1892 when settlers arrived looking for land near Biscayne Bay which would be used for agricultural purposes only. A few years later a group named Cutler bought 640 acres along Bulls Key Road from John Fousting who had purchased it from Pedro Menendez de Haro some time earlier. With this purchase, Cutler became one of the first white men settler in what would become known as Southwest Florida
