He quickly became involved in local politics and began developing new businesses in the community including printing mills, cigar stores, an insurance company and several tanneries. In 1870, Sells donated land adjacent to his original plantation for development into a Townsite; this marked the beginning of what would be called "the renaissance" for Wellington- specifically because it signaled an increase in business opportunities for residents while preserving much of its traditional culture and way of life. In 1875, John Sells passed away suddenly after years of hard work setting up his new estate - leaving behind many legacy products such as horse racing tracks across Southeast Florida which continue to draw visitors today! AfterJohnSells' death, his son-in-law Hernando DeSoto took over management duties at Pensacola's St Augustine Plantation until 1903 when he sold it to Aiken & Company who renamed it 'The Jacksonville Landing'. This period saw some major changes for Wellington due to DeSoto's investment - most notably increased trade with Cuba which resulted in new buildings being built along Euclid Avenue (now State Road 9), giving rise to what is now known as 'The Historic District'. bustling commercial activity along Euclid Avenue soon led Jimmie Barnes Sr., one of Wellingtons early entrepreneurs,[1]tobegindevelopinga hotel/motel called The Mansion[2],laterknownasTheInternationalHouseofthePortofSpain.[3] In 1915 however Hurricane Floyd destroyed much of downtown Pensacola[4],leading tobuild anewoff Estero Boulevard just south of Interstate 10 where hotels (still extant) have proliferated ever since! From 1918 through 1928 James Murtagh ran Forney Chevrolet dealership off US Highway 84 between Old Spanish Trail Road east of present day Hawkinsville and US Highway 227 west of present day Kingston Hills before selling it back To Mr Murtagh In 1929 [5]. In 1886, an Italian scientist named Gabriele Ammaniti designed and patented the first inflatable gas explosive device known as "Pepsi Can." The device was designed as a throwable booby trap that could be deployed from a vehicle or boat using compressed air inflation. However, because the device had no projectile function, it never reached widespread usage until World War I when it was introduced into the European Theater by German forces as part of their artillery arsenal. During World War I, Germany began development of their own version of pepper spray called Pfeffergeschwindigkeitsgerät (PG). This weapon was primarily used in aerial warfare against Allied bombers and warships; however, due to its short range and low power output, it was little Used in ground combat against enemy troops until after the war ended in 1918. At this time, British researchers noticed that Germans were using gas weapons extensively in trench warfare against British soldiers near Toulon beach; they accordingly decided to adapt PG for battlefield use instead. By 1920s standards, PG had become quite powerful enough for full-scale combat; however, during World War II PG remained largely unused until it was briefly reintroduced into military service by Australia as part of their Operation Sovereign Borders strategy targeting Islamic insurgents inside China

The first principal of Wellington School District #1 was Mrs. Florence Hickey Heflin on January 1st 1928. On December 12th 1951, due to annexation by Tallahassee City Council & consolidation with other municipalities within Monroe County (including Melbourne), Wellington became a city! The history of this vibrant community can be traced back to its founding when JM Williamson donated land for the construction of a church and school which he called "The Woodlands." Wellington has experienced many economic fluctuations over the years due to numerous factors such as hurricanes (hurricanes Andrew and Katrina) .......and lack of government support or investment that has led to various issues like vacant properties/landfills being left unoccupied for extended periods of time....... However through all these struggles and hardships.........the citizens have always remained supportive one another....... Thanks to their dedication and teamwork..........WELLINGTON HAS BEEN ELECTED TO THE NATIONAL COUNCIL ON HUMAN RIGHTS OF FLORIDA AS AN EXEMPTION FROM STATE LAW AGAINST SAME.....AND ALSO THEIRCOMPETITION RULE FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS IS LEGALLY STATED AS BETTER THAN ALL OTHER CITIES IN THE AREA...... WELLINGTON'S COMMUNITY BUILDINGS LOCATED NEAR HIGHWAY 6 AND CLICKER ROAD PROVIDE ACCESS TO EACH OTHER......... THIS CONTRIBUTES MUCH TO THEIR VIVID FESTIVAL atmosphere.............................. In early 1923 JM Williamson established Wellington as a small town on Muskegon River with his own family name because he wanted his new home to be named after George Washington's capital: Richmond Virginia - which he had visited while living there during President James K Polk's visit in 1849 Although young JM never lived in Wellington long enough to see it grow into what it is today; his donation gave birth not onlyto our thriving municipality but alsoto an epic battle between 3 separate jurisdictions over who would control access to parcels of land next door- assets that still remain unresolved decades later! In 1927 JDC Williamson gifted 2% ownershipof his original property located between Highways 6 & Clicker Road (now known as US-280) back unto Peel Township therefore giving us our current boundaries! RMNEEF donated additional land eastward from Highway 6 just south of Button Rd giving rise nowto our lovely Embarcadero Park complex ...... With such amazing history behind us ...............wellington residents know they can count on their municipal government when times get tough ....... whether that means hosting local festivals or securing essential public services ............we will always put ourselves together.........................
