In 1954, after years of debate among trustees throughout both districts over whether or not to establish a high school in Wellington I voted in favor of establishing a High School in our town swallowing up rivals Plantation High School which had been established only three years earlier! At this time we were one of only 3 towns in Polk County that did not have either a high school or intermediate school! Today there are 9th thru 12th graders attending Plantation High School while Wellington offers 8th thru 10th graders access to Southwestern Bulls Academy which provides PreKindergarten thru 6th Grade education! In addition there are several other private schools located within walking distance including Wellesley Christian Academy who offer PreKindergarten THROUGH Eighth Grade education as well as Stonington Preparatory Academy who offers Kindergarten THROUGH Seventh Grade education! While much has changed since 1982 when our Community amalgamated with another neighboring community you can still see many familiar faces such as Mrs LaFontaine who serves as Superintendent for both plants & Crestview/Wellington Consolidatedschool District #1 love her job even though she never leaves home without her 4 dogs spending their days playing fetch orcbying each other

Wellington is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. It was founded in 1892 by J.D. Wellington and named for the Duke of Wellington. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. The town is located on U.S. Route 30 between Lakeland and Gainesville and it is part of the Gainesville–Lakeland Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Wellington was Jules Cook, who arrived in 1892 with his family from England. Cook's parents had come over as indentured servants to work on a plantation near Tallahassee. After three years of hard labor, Cook's father died and Cook himself became a free man; he then took his family to live on an estate called "Tallahassee Plantation". In 1894, John Aiken bought "Tallahassee Plantation", which made him one of the wealthiest men in Polk County; though he never lived there himself, he left many money gifts to various members of his family and friends including Jules Cook Jr., his brother-in-law Edwin Bogue (later governor), Wm Hixson (a member of Congress from 1899 to 1903) and John Fenton (presidential candidate 1912). In 1893 Jules Cook Jr., along with other pioneers such as George Sennett and Alfred Hitchcock came up with the idea for what would become known as "Wellington" after visiting England during their trip home from London Disneyland – they thought that because it looked like a well-manicured English village that it would be a good place to settle down after being away from civilization for so long! When they got back they met Captain James Chilton who owned land adjacent to where Wellington now stands - Chilton convinced them that if they built themselves some cabins there then everyone else would eventually want to move into the area too! They did just this - creating what is now known as "Chilton Heights" within only four months! By 1907 Wellington had reached its present size - 3 blocks wide at its widest point – with 50 buildings! The name stuck and remains unchanged today! The post office opened in 1904 and remained open until 1959; during that time most mail was sent through Gainesville since it was easier than travelling all the way out to Tampa or Fort Myers for delivery. However, due to increasing competition from other towns around Florida, Hawkinsville began receiving more mail than either Waterloo or Gainesville proper; so when Hawkinsville closed its post office in 1959 it effectively ended Neville’s service as overnight mail carrier for Wellington residents! To this day Kingston Post Office still provides overnight mail service for residents of Wellesley Village though local services have been taken over by First Coast Mail Corporation since 2007. In 1911 businessmen Harry Montero Sr./Jr., Manuel Martinez Sr./Jr., José Ortega/Jr., Enrique Iglesias/Jr.,and Carlos Ramos formed the Jacksonville branch of Western National Bank which served both Waterloo and Wellesley villages until 1970 when their subsidiary First Coast Mail Corporation assumed operations.
