In the early 1920s, Wellington was a small town in Polk County, Florida. It had a population of around 350 people and consisted of a few stores and a post office. The first gunpacking company in Wellington was organized by Hiram W. Scott in 1922. The company became known as "The Gun Pouch Company" and produced high-quality firearms that were distributed through local dealers. In 1929, the Gun Pouch Company merged with the Armoury Supply Company to form "The Armoury Group". The company continued to produce firearms until it was acquired by Colt Firearms Corporation in 1959.
Wellington, Florida is a small town located in Hillsborough County, Florida. The population was 1,832 at the 2010 census. Wellington was founded in 1836 as a station on the Jacksonville and Tampa Railroad. It became an incorporated city in 1907. In 1960, it merged with Lakeland to form the current city. In 1932, Wellington was chosen as the site of both the world's first air-defense radar installation and the first intercontinental ballistic missile launchsite. The decision to locate these strategic facilities here came about because of its location midway between Tampa and Jacksonville and its excellent rail transportation infrastructure. During World War II, Wellington played a critical role in antisubmarine warfare by housing two depth charges launchers and two manned torpedoes vessels used for sinking submarines off Jaxson Beach Naval Base. Today, Wellington retains much of its historic charm including its downtown district that includes a mix of Victorian architecture dating back to before it merged with Lakeland. Additionally, there are several businesses that have been around since before WTOI started teaching here in 1960: First National Bank & Trust; Colonial Mortgage Company; Armstrong Tire & Rubber Co.; Western Electric Company; and Mears International Corporation among others. There is also substantial preservation work being done on many of Wellington's buildings which include the original town hall building (now part of City Hall), Stiles School (originally built as an Episcopal girls' school), Masonic Lodge No 2 (former home of Welcome Home radio show host Bob Hope), three churches - Anglican (Church of England) Cathedral Extension Inc., Methodist church called Friends United Methodist Church South/Wellington Baptist Chapel - along with dozens of other small businesses and residences dating back to when it was a rural community inhabited mainly by farmers who raised their families around local watermills or cattle drives

In the early 1800s, Wellington was a small town in Polk County, Florida. The area now known as Wellington was part of the Apalachicola River region and was home to many Native American tribes. In 1835, Wellington became the county seat of Polk County, and it remained that way until 1907. During the Seminole Wars (1836-1911), Wellington was one of several towns in Florida that were attacked by Seminoles. The town’s only damage came from a skirmish between Seminoles and local militiamen. When Tampa Bay became a city in 1907, Wellington moved to what is now Lakeland Boulevard. In 1934, the city amalgamated with nearby St Petersburg to form Tampa Bay City government. Today, Wellington remains an agricultural community with a significant population of Indian descent.
The first settlers in Wellington were a group of men who arrived in 1790. They were pioneers who left their homes on the east coast of Florida and journeyed down to what is now Wellington. The first tree-cutting tools were used in this area and early residents hunted, gathered, and fished. There was no water available so they relied on deer, turkey, and other game. In 1813, the British military burned down the fort that had been built by the settlers for defense purposes. This event caused a great deal of upset among the colonists as it demonstrated British power over them. The following year saw another battle fought between English and Spanish forces when Spanish troops attempted to invade British territory. In 1830, Wellington became part of Jacksonville County when it was formed from parts of Volusia County. In 1834, it became part of Tallahassee County when it was created from parts of Hardee County. In 1906, Wellington incorporated as a city with a population of 33 people. It has since grown to over 100 people and continues to be one of Florida’s most vibrant communities
