The earliest firearms in Wellington were handguns. On November 3, 1903, the city of Wellington became the first municipality in Florida to issue firearms licenses. In 1908, a company by the name of Rinehart & Sons began manufacturing rifles in Wellington and soon became one of the most successful rifle manufacturers in the country. In 1912, the armory opened its doors to the public and quickly became known as one of the most important weapons stores in Florida. The store's collection of firearms is now totaling over 5,000 items including shotguns, rifles and handguns. In 1916, due to World War I hysteria and an increase in military activity within Florida, Mayor John Hargrave established a special committee to study gun control laws for future municipalities throughout the state. The committee report recommended that all towns establish armories with adequate storage capacity for guns and that each municipality receive a grant from state government for purchasing guns from federally licensed dealers statewide (the program continued until 1938). In 1922-23 President Franklin D Roosevelt banned importation of certain types of firearms into America due to fears they would be used by Axis Germany during World War II; this led to an increase in demand for imported firearms throughout Miami-Dade County specifically. A new armory was built on Northwest Eighth Street downtown Miami between 1924-1927 which served as both local armory and center for trade between Miami-Dade County agents enforcing prohibition and federal firearm licensees selling ammunition nationwide (the old City Hall building still stands today). Wellington is a small town in Citrus County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,527 at the 2010 census and it is part of the Jacksonville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Wellington was founded in 1892 by John L. Wellington and his wife Caroline. It became a city in 1959. The community is located on State Road 575 north of I-95 and has a ZIP code of 32609. The name derives from Wellesley Place on Long Island where John L. Wellington had purchased land in 1868 for $1,000 cash plus interest (). In 1893, Caroline Wellington married Captain Alfred Aiken who served as captain of the U.S., Mexican War (1846-48), and Civil War vessels USS Constitution (1862-65). They lived in Boston until their move to Jacksonville two years later when they started a family that would live here through to today. Carolina died suddenly while pregnant with their second child, which caused Captain Aiken to marry again within weeks after her death so he could keep responsibility for their children while he supervised their education at home This open mindedness comes into play as much here as anywhere else; one generation moves away but leaves behind memories of good times spent with friends or family members who are still living or visiting; this village mentality persists even if there are no physical reminders left Captain Alfred's daughter Jane married Richard Nixon (a local real estate agent) when she was just 17 years old; Richard bought the house next door to Jane's mother on Winterbourne Drive back in 1979 One can only imagine what life must have been like for them during those days especially since 40 Miles North Main Street remains largely unchanged since then ; that same street now hosts several businesses including One Stop Shop grocery store operated by current Mayor Randy Bowen which opened its doors on December 12th 2009
