The Sterrett family continued to operate their business until 1939 when it was bought by Harry Herron Sr. The Herrons ran the store until 1978 when it was sold to JB Enterprises who operated it until 1984 when it was sold to Rick Fenton who kept it as an antique shop until 1991 when he closed the shop permanently due to financial difficulties. The earliest known reference to gun cleaning is from 1892 where Cuthbert Stevens wrote: “The use of a revolver for target shooting is old-fashioned; but there are now many efficient ways of doing this work which require no special training or experience save that given by watching how others do it’” During World War II, gunsmiths turned their attention towards providing ammunition for troops on the front lines as well as repairing and refurbishing weapons seized during the war effort. This new interest in gun repair led to increased demand for pistol care products such as lubricants and brushes, which were not available before hostilities ended. In 1946, two men from Vero Beach named Joe Griesemer and Don White opened Griesemer Guns & Ammo in what is now called Griesemer Antiques & Gun Store on US 41 near State Road 327A in central Vero Beach. At that time, only rifles were being sold withOUT pistols (guns could only be purchased with revolvers). In 1957, they added handguns which became common after state law changed which allowed handgun sales without a permit starting January 1st 1958 . Sales went up quickly due to this change and soon afterward they opened another store on State Road 327 east of US 41 called Griesemer's Pistol Emporium (later renamed Easley Firearms). This store specialized exclusively in handguns including Martin Babbitt guitars and other vintage firearms while also carrying established brands such as Remington Arms, Winchester Repeating Arms Company, etc.. In 1979 they moved out of their original location onto Sunrise Boulevard south of SR 327A., becoming one of the longest running businesses west of Jacksonville proper! Commodore Pritchard's dream for Palm Island Resort would come true when he secured title to 640 acres (272 hectares) from Ageronimo Cimarron heirs in 1886 after defeating them in a legal dispute over ownership of land near present-day Vero Beach Boulevard and US 1A . Pritchard's dream came true as he saw an opportunity to create a bedroom community withspacious McMansions for wealthy tourists that could rival Daytona Beach or Clearwater Springs . Initially known as Commodore Islands, VeroBeach became an official town in 1925 when it annexed neighbouring Flagler City . It wasn't until 1960 that then Mayor Bob Reasoner persuaded county commissioners to annex VeroBeach proper so that it would have its own police force and fire department! From the prehistoric natives who inhabited this area to the Spanish who populated it in the 16th century, there has been a continuous presence of people in this region for over three centuries. The area that is now Vero Beach was first settled by Native Americans in the early 1800s. In 1821, Captain John Smith discovered what would become known as "Vero Beach." This beach was named after two sisters- one of whom bore him a son. It wasn't until 1888 that Vero Beach became an incorporated town. The first post office was established in 1892. In 1907, Vero Beach annexed adjacent unincorporated areas of Manatee County. The population of Vero Beach increased from its original 2,500 residents to more than 10,000 by 1930. During World War II, much effort was put into developing the naval base at Fort Myers and developing land for military housing on which to build new barracks and other facilities used by military personnel and their families during the war. By 1945, however, Fort Myers had been decommissioned and many Army soldiers had returned home. As a result of these changes in government policy, many businesses closed down or were abandoned during the postwar period; however, some businesses did continue operations while they were adapted to new economic conditions. By 1957, when VERO BEACH WATER POLICY WAS IMPLEMENTED AND THE BAYES AREA WAS ADDED TO THE CITY OF VERO BEACH INCorporation Limits (see annex A), most businesses were long gone but a few active ones such as Ponce de Leon Brewery continued to serve beer until 1984 when it merged with Anheuser Busch Incorporated (ABInC). As part of downtown redevelopment efforts initiated in 1969 by Mayor James Jepsen and City Manager Ray Foley following extensive community surveys conducted throughout the city limits since1966 .,the first phase included demolition of most old buildings within thenew boundaries excepting those located on State Road 17B which became Municipal Building #2 housed within existing building #1 on First Street North .; plans also called for creating open space around Municipal Building 1 through annexation of adjoining properties eastward along First Street North from US 1 highway includingFifth Avenue South next door to Mangrove Nursery School; addition also included erection of large metal frame gazebo facing First Street North over mouth of lagoon created through excavation beneath former shopping center site fill material removed during renovation works inside municipal building 1 including restoration (long overdue)of late nineteenth century red sandstone sarcophagus Chapel designed by noted local architect HUGH CONWAY with cornerstone inscription “Erected In Memory Of Our Reverend And Former Bishop George Tuttle”; development also includes provision for installation Within Municipality Of Waterproof Light Fixtures For Streetscapes On All Buildings Streetscapes To Be Proportioned To Class I Lighthouse Structure With At least One lamp Post Each And A Meter Above Roofline Every 100 Feet Along Frontage On All Streetscape Between Buildings & Lagoon
