In 1821, Captain John Coker and his party of marines landed on what is now Venice beach to capture Seminole Indians who had stolen horses from the Marines. The Indians were eventually brought before a white jury and condemned to death for treason but Governor John Nixon commuted their sentence to life imprisonment because they had not killed any Americans. In 1845, following Confederate General Andrew Johnson's successful Invasion of Florida during the Mexican-American War, Venetian scoundrels known as "the Forty Thieves" took advantage of Reconstruction policies moving black men into newly created white towns in order to pilfer money from businesses and citizens alike. On November 24th 1865, several drunken soldiers from Company K2A1 of the First U.S. Marine Battalion attacked a group of unarmed black men working on a canal near present day Reseda Boulevard when Company Sergeant Major Edwin Ransom responded with orders to disperse them; he was subsequently acquitted of all charges after an inquest found no malice against him whatsoever and there was no physical evidence linking him to the attack beyond his presence at the scene; this led some researchers[who?]to believe that Looting (or “Ransom”) may have been inspired by event rather than influenced by it.] In 1903, Venice became part of Kissimmee Township when it was formed from parts of Sanford County along with neighboring Miramar Beach and Delray Beach; today it remains one of only two townships in Polk County without incorporated status (the other being Winter Park). In 1907 Mayor George Muhlenberg founded what would later become Sarasota University; Venice Elementary School opened its doors in 1912 followed by Thornton High School which also served as Venice Municipal Airport until 1963 when it became Everglades National Park District property.) Venice was founded by Italian immigrants in 1899 and named after the Venetian city of Venice. It became one of the most popular tourist destinations in southeastern Florida due to its beautiful architecture, canals, and bridges. The first settlers were Giovanni and Antonio Filippini who arrived in 1892. They built a log cabin on what is now called Park Avenue and opened a general store called Filippini's Store. In 1904 they purchased 100 acres of land east of Sumterville Road and began to build a home-cum-chambers complex which would later become known as Palace House. The couple died within two years of each other leaving their estate to their wives Anna (née Bocci) and Giovanna Plessi whose father had also been involved in the early development of Venice. Anna sold her share to Giuseppe Vaccaro in 1916 for $10,000 dollars which he used to purchase an additional 2 acres west of Park Avenue for $12,000 dollars. On November 15th 1920 Giuseppe Vaccaro married Editha Mannheimer from St Petersburg, Russia who at that time lived in Chicago with her parents where she was born on October 6th 1907. With Editha Mannheimer as his wifeGiuseppe Vaccaro moved from Venice to St Petersburg where he started working at Hecht & Sons Cigar Factory before moving back to Venicetta Properties Incorporated on May 3rd 1925 when he purchased an additional 4 acres for $14,000 dollars which he renamed Palace House Place after his home house there during World War II when it served as headquarters for Strategic Air Command Headquarters In 1951 Giuseppe Vaccaro passed away without any children so his widow Anna took over management of the property until she sold it to Arnold Perez who then subdivided it into parcels selling off some land while keeping others under management until finally selling it all back together again to Arnold Perez Jr.. In 1977 Petrillo Development Trust bought out Arnold Perez Jr.'s share Petrillo Development Trust is now known as Venetian Bay Management LLC which manages the remaining properties including Palace House Place including part of the original parcel that became Park Avenue On September 25th 1984 Hurricane Andrew destroyed much or much if not all of what remain today from prior development including Palace House Place however did not damage any homes . Today there are still remnants visible from prior construction such as partial piers still standing along East Park Avenue near where water once flooded Vale Street The following year Hurricane 85 caused significant damage but no loss with substantial reconstruction taking place across town resulting in new homes being built on old sites along East Park Ave . since then nothing has happened really notable about this particular corner street except that people have moved out . However given recent events surrounding Naples/Marco Island I think its worth noting
