One of the earliest gun safes in Venice was built by Mr. John A. Madden in 1916. It consisted of two metal doors with a locked handle and was located at 925 N Miami Ave.’s second floor suite #1A. In 1949, the first gun safe company in Venice, Florida was founded by Mr. Wm Hagerty and his wife Mrs. Myrtle Hagerty and their business was located at 509N Main Street Suite 311B-C). After World War II, Venetian residents began storing their firearms outside of town limits as restrictions on carrying handguns within city limits went into effect (see “The Gun Ban: 1945-1949″ chapter 3). In 1966, Mr. Bob Schieffer organized aFriends of Gun Safety Committee which met monthly to discuss safety issues related to storage and use of handguns in Venice (now known as The Friends Group). The group met weekly until 1978 when they disbanded because no one wanted to organize every meeting consecutively (See “Organizing Meetings: 1978-1986″ ). In 1984, Citizens for Concealed Carry (CC) formed in reaction to increasing handgun bans being placed throughout the United States (See “Toward an Open Society: CC History” ). CC wantedVenice to become an example for concealed carry laws across America so that other municipalities could learn from what had happened in Venice . In 1986, CC relocated from its original location at 625 S Michigan Ave., Suite 309D – this location became known as the Venice Armory . At that time, VF&R Firearms Incorporated became the parent company for CC . Today,Venice has over 100 registered members who participate in various functions such as training exercises; providing support during national conversations promoting open society ; sponsoring events statewide; and working together on shared objectives including reducing crime rates , improving public safety ; building better relationships with law enforcement ; proud owner of one of Florida's most popular firearm stores

In 1916, Venice became an incorporated village with a government run school system which was still in use until 1959 when it merged with Miami Beach into newly formed Miami-Dade County; but although it lost its independent charter status it continued to be governed by Village Councils until 1969 when it became one municipality underMiami-Dade County law. In 1951–1952, Wesleyan Methodist Church began construction on what would later become known as Venetian Hall which served as the village hall until 1964 when Miami Beach Town Hall replaced it because of space limitations within the then newly created city limits of Miami Beach. In 1957–1959 another church building called Our Lady Of Angels Chapel was constructed on NW First Street just east of US Hwy 1A between First & Second Streets which served also as the village hall for some time before becoming owned by SWSC until 1988 when UCCF took over operation due to limited space at their main campus across First Street from where Venetian Hall once stood; however Our Lady Of Angels Chapel still serves as an active parishioner facility today.(See photo below) In 1962–1966 new bridges were built across Biscayne Bay connectingVenice with Flagler Island via Causeway Boulevard while concurrently reopening SR 527 from I-95 southward thru Broward County thereby completing what had been billed as "The Grand Finale" or "Opening Day"of Floridian Highway SystemProject authorized by Congress under Public Law 89–534 dated November 20,1966 - otherwise known colloquially nationally simply as "the '66 Bridge Project". This project involved rehabilitating both SR 527 & Causeway Boulevard for Improved Road Surface Arrangement providing accessages radial/directional along SR 527 from I-95 southward thru Broward County including widening several sections thereof concurrent with resurfacing all bridge spans including both those between Flagler Island & Coral Springs - finally completing bridging over Biscayne Bay approximately 4½ miles long comprising 3 bridges each carrying 1 lane each way plus authority for future expansion upriver subject only to funding availability +/- $1 Billion thus creating one of America's largest expressways ever completed!(See Photo Below) As can be seen above there are many proud moments throughout our town's past including being among one of only handfuls awarded distinction for excellence locally (and statewide) upon receipt/completion... numerous distinctions have come our way since becoming part=of Greater Miami Community Development Authority circa 1990 – most notably recipientship…to include: Most Outstanding Urban Neighborhood award 2009; “10 Best Places To Live In Florida” designation 2010; “Best Place To Raise A Family” designation 2011….winning “Community Choice Award” 2013….. recipient…2014 American Planning Association Foundation Presidential Award For Excellence In Planning
