Titusville is a city located in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 10,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Ft. Lauderdale Metropolitan Statistical Area. The City of Titusville was founded in 1892 by Elisha and Lydia Green. In 1907, it annexed the towns of Deerfield and Willowbrook. In 1970, the town of Springdale merged with Titusville and became an incorporated municipality. In 1976, the city formed a partnership with Lakeland to develop an area known as “The Villages” which would include over 100 acres (40 hectares) of undeveloped land near both lakeside communities. Construction began on this project in 1977 and took two years to complete; when it was finally finished in 1979, it had a population of over 20,000 people living in 207 housing units. The Villages were initially marketed as a retirement community for middle-aged citizens but have since been used as a commercial center, including multiple large movie theaters and retail stores such as Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney Inc., Lowe's Companies Inc., Kmart Inc., Target Corporation and Home Depot Incorporated.- all within walking distance of one another.– all within walking distance of one another.– all within walking distance of one another.–

Titusville was founded by General James Wilkinson on October 25, 1835 as a post office called Wilkinson's Landing after his Creek Indian village of that name. In 1881, it was renamed for Admiral John C. Knox following his victory over Spanish fleet at Pensacola Bayroads during the American Civil War (1861-1865). As an important naval base during World War II, Titusville played an important role in both Naval Air Station Jacksonville and Naval Hospital Jacksonville; both are now used as commercial airports. Titusville has a rich maritime history dating back to when Captain James Wilkinson sailed down Mobile Bay on July 2, 1795 while searching for new land routes to India and China. His ship succeedfuly reached Fort George Island after five days of navigation with only one night spent ashore due to high tidal waves and strong winds which compelled him to call off his journey for fear of being swamped; this event marks perhaps the first recorded European sighting of Florida's Gulf Coast since Native Americans had hunted there for centuries. A wharf was built at present day downtown Titusville in 1835 by local farmers who brought their horses and buggies upriver from their farms along Mobile Bayou where they unloaded goods onto flatboats that then returned downstream across the bayou for transport inland by boat or riverboat into Frenchtown on Alabama rivers where goods were transhipped before being sold townwide throughout Lower Louisiana before being shipped back upstream across Lake Pontchartrain across Baton Rouge into New Orleans where they were sold direct to retailers all along Louisiana's Mississippi River valley! In 1861 during America's Civil War (1861- 1865), Commodore John C Knox fought against Spanish forces under Santa Anna at Pensacola Bayroads; Knox became victorious and named himself Admiral JOHN C KNOX Commander-in-Chief Ulysses S Grant’s navy operations in Central America including Operation Neptune’s Spear which resulted in significant damage done aboard blockade runner San Francisco because Spanish vessels attempted to trade with Cuba under British protection without prior notice or coordination with our Navy preventing possible loss of life or treasure intended for Havana City – thusBLACKMAILING IN THE UNITED STATES BEGAN! One hundred fifty thousand troops served under Knox as part of General Sherman’s Homestead Brigade commanded by Major General Robert E Lee until December 1st when Confederate General Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson sacked Lexington Arsenal northeast of Petersburg using 7 regiments Of Union Regular Infantry supported by artillery fire from nearby wooded hills resulting in massive civilian casualties amounting today To Over $3 MILLION dollars value reported today just past Stonewall Jackson Day! This event also led directly to enactment of The 13th Amendment abolishing slavery within THE UNITED STATES !!!
