Titusville, Florida is a small town located in Osceola County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,541 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford metropolitan area. Titusville was founded in 1885 by farmers from Ohio and Indiana as an agricultural community known as "Natchez". In 1927, it became an incorporated municipality with a population of 914. The first scopes were designed and built in Titusville by George Wyeth and Wm. Henson. Wm. Henson also built the first observatory in Titusville which was dedicated on May 15, 1892. There are several significant buildings associated with the history of scopes in Titusville including the Wyeth Observatory (now part of the Orange County Museum), The First National Bank Building (now part of Sears Tower), and Park Road Baptist Church which served as both the town's courthouse and school district until 1958. In 1925, Air Force Base Camp McCoy was established adjacent to present-day Fort Walton Beach for storage of military equipment used during World War II. During this time, scopes were stored at various locations around southeastern Polk County before being moved to Camp McCoy for use by USAAF personnel during the war. After Camp McCoy closed in 1945 due to its proximity to airfields all over southeast Florida, many old scopes were taken to nearby Clearwater Beach where they remained until they were donated to The Astronomical Society of America (ASA) by then-Governor Lawton Chirico in 1978 under ASA's sponsorship program called "Elderscope Scoped Telescopes Donation Program". As part of this program, any old telescope that could be restored or rebuilt would be given back to society under certain conditions including having no visible mechanical damage other than replacements or repairs necessary for safety reasons; having been maintained primarily indoors throughout their entire lifetime; and surviving unrestored for at least 30 years after donation without losing any features or functions

In 1837, Titusville was formalized as a town when it was established at the junction of two wagon roads linking Tampa and Jacksonville. At that time there were only a few hundred residents living hereabouts including many farmers who traded goods with those in Tampa and Jacksonville. Businesses located downtown included bootlegging businesses such as His Majestic Brewery which opened up in 1839 while still run by Scottish immigrants; blacksmithing businesses such as “Shoey Bill” Smith’s forge; gristmill; sawmill; butchers shop; seed store; livery stable; post office (the first organized in Florida); fire department (formed December 4th 1838) serving citizens from both towns until 1865 when it moved to Hillsborough County). During World War II Titusville experienced significant growth due to military service being recruitment focal point for numerous families across the state who supplied their soldiers with food, clothing and much more during this time period especially considering that most civilians were not impacted directly by hostilities other than decreased access to essential services like water supplies or educational opportunities for their children Thereafter there continued rapid decline during all forms of economic recession throughout the 1960s – 1970s until reaching its current levels around 1980 when jobs dried up due largely to new technology investments away from home particularly within truck driving industries which had become dominant following world wars I & II . By 2000 there remained approximately 100 residents while business districts downtown have shrunk considerably reducing foot traffic while areas adjacent thereto have seen increasing development yielding better quality housing options despite lower overall employment rates relative to nearby neighborhoods
