Titusville, Florida is a small town located in Hillsborough County, Florida. The population was 10,476 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area. The first shootings in Titusville were reported on October 5th 1886 when two shotguns were fired at a store. On October 8th 1892, thirteen people were shot and killed by John A. Macdonald while he was hunting deer in the Butler Field location. The first legally registered handgun manufacturer in Titusville was Wm Hogg & Sons on November 17th 1896. Titusville had its own police department from 1902 until 1968 when Hillsborough County joined the Florida State Patrol and the department became known as the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. In 1991, it merged with the Tampa Police Department to form one agency called "The Tampa Police Department/Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office". In 2013, it also merged with neighbouring St Petersburg Police Department to form one agency called "The Tampa Police Department/St Petersburg City Marshal's Office". In 2016, it merged with neighboring Polk County Sheriff’s Office to create one agency called “The Polk County Sheriff’s Office/Titusville police department” which is currently managed by Assistant Director Rick Swartzberg who has held that position since January 1st 2017. As of 2019 there are currently 4 law enforcement agencies operating out of Titusville including: The Tampa Police Department/Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office; PolkCountySheriff'sOffice/TitusvillePoliceDepartment; Tarpon Springs PD; and Clearwater PD

He called it Isla de las Nieves (Island of Tears). The first recorded reference to Titusville appeared in a deed from Captain John Smith dated November 12, 1764: "Forsaking our ship for want of water we landed at this place Saturday night by means of an Indian tracker who brought us information that there was a creek very near by which we desired to venture." In 1836, Josiah Gregg built the first sawmill in Titusville after arriving from Georgia with his family. In 1868–69 James Burch bought land west of town and built what became Jacksonville's first cotton gin. The towns post office opened on December 5th, 1868; however mail continued traveling via boat until railroad service arrived two weeks later on December 16th! By 1870 there were over twenty businesses operating in Titusville! In 1899 businessman Milton Sweeny invested $30 000 into building what would become Polk National Bank & Trust Building – one of America's largest commercial buildings at that time! “TitusVILLE” began as “Island Creek” because much material had been shipped downriver from plantations along Jupiter River during those early days without any local transportation or storage facilities available other than Canoe Landing dockyards where boats unloaded their cargo before being transported upriver against the current back out to Beaufort Sound!

The water level rose so high that trees grew above ground and old navigation channels were created which still exist today including State Road 330 which links Titusville to downtown Jacksonville today
