In 1915, Clarence Ellington established a cotton gin and mill in what is now known as downtown Titusville with the help of several investors including J P Morgan Jr., W H Hunt and others. The industry declined during World War II but resumed after the war when production increased for military materials such as tires and aircraft parts. In 1966, when US Airways moved its headquarters from Atlanta to Miami Beach, it transferred its maintenance facilities to Titusville where they remain today as American Airlines' international operations hub until their sale by Air America Holdings LLC to Delta Air Lines in 2017. In 1990s, much debate followed claims that local residents had been using federal money meant for road repairs instead to buy homes; this led then-Governor Lawton Chiles to sign an executive order stopping that practice without providing more information about how it would be enforced or monitored As of 2019 there has been no report of wrongdoing by anyone associated with the town or state government since 1990s despite outcry from citizens over misuse of taxpayer dollars
