Titusville, Florida was founded in 1892 by J.D. Robb and James A. Robb as a small community of less than 100 people. The town became an agricultural center with a large cotton crop and saw some growth in the early years of the 20th century due to its location on the Stonington River. However, economic development slowed during World War I and Prohibition caused a decline in business during the 1920s. In the 1930s, local businessmen developed new methods for manufacturing ammunition, which led to increased production and prosperity for Titusville until the late 1940s when world war II interrupted production. Afterward, industry declined as residents turned their attention to other pursuits such as farming or housing development. The population of Titusville peaked at around 1,500 in 1960 before gradually declining over the next few decades; however, it has since slowly regained some stability and today (2018) continues to experience modest growth thanks to its proximity to Orlando and job opportunities within commuting distance).
