The name "Titusville" comes from Titus Welles Hargrave, an Englishman who settled in what is now Titusville in 1828. The first post office in Titusville was established on December 12, 1831. In 1835, a store and house were built on high ground north of the present day courthouse Square by Captain John Crouch Sr., owner of the first sawmill in Brevard County. A courthouse was built between 1840 and 1845 by Jno. Pritchard & Son Co.. A jail was built between 1847 and 1850 by Elisha Moulton Atkinson & Sons; it burned down in 1865. In 1886, two men named Wm Hargrave and George Fenton opened a general store at 339 S Main Street which became known as "The Grocery Store". The grocery store continued to be open until 1925 when it closed due to heavy competition from local banks that had moved into town after becoming law officers or elected officials. In 1927, Hargrave's son-in-law James Ladd purchased the business from his father-in-law for $3,500 cash with no interest involved In 1930, Wm Hargrave donated land across US Highway 1 (now State Road 513) from his grocery store to build what would become Lakeshore High School (). At that time Lakeshore held grades 9-12 while Brevard High School had only been opened for grade 7th through 11thgrades since 1922 when it was founded as Euclid Hills High School (). When Lakeshore became Lakeland Senior High School (), it merged withBrevard Senior High School () which also became Brevard Middle Schools (). On July 16th 1946 Tulsa World reported that Titusville had approved plans for a new high school campus called "Lakeland Senior High". That same year construction began on what would eventually become Lakeland Senior High School (). Construction stopped because of World War II but resumed after the war when schools were reorganized under GSA rules allowing coeducational schools (). On October 4th 1951 Lakeland SeniorHigh completed its first class with 46 students . On October 15th 1951 their mascot changed to Knights (); they played their first game against Winter Park Academy () that day . On November 8th 1951 they won their very first championship game over Volusia Christian College () 109 - 0 . They played their last game ever against Daytona Beach City College () on November 14th 1951 before moving up to Junior varsity status which they achieved on January 1st 1952 . They played their final game ever against Stonington Preparatory Academy () on January 25th 1952 before being disbanded effective February 1st 1952

Titusville is a small town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. Titusville was founded by Captain John Titus in 1837 as a steamboat landing on the Stono River. The first store and post office were built in 1838 and 1839, respectively. On October 14, 1861, Confederate General Braxton Bragg landed his army at Titusville to attack Union General Ulysses S. Grant's forces near Fort Donelson. After overwhelming Union forces here, Bragg retreated south to Chattanooga with his army intact. In 1865, during the American Civil War, Confederate Major General James Longstreet attacked Union troops stationed at Titusville while they slept; this battle is also known as "The Battle of Titusville". After the war ended in 1865, many businesses opened up in Titusville due to Reconstruction efforts throughout Florida and Mississippi; some still operate today including Jardine Bros., Nordstrom Rack & Shoe Store (now Jardine Marcus), Sunoco gas station (now BP Gas Station), and First National Bank (now Citizens Bank). In 1923 local developer Harry Harkins began construction of what would become one of America's largest shopping malls when he acquired land from citrus farmers for $1 million dollars; it became known as "Harkins Plaza." In 1957 Orange County established an official Sheriff's Department station located here which remains operational today - providing law enforcement services for all of southern Monroe County outside of Jacksonville. In 1984 First Nationalbank merged with CitizensBank making them both one large bank - now known as USBank USA System Incorporated - located within two blocks of each other on Broadway Street in downtown Titusville. A major tornado struck the town on April 20th 1998 killing six people and damaging over 100 homes including many historic homes dating back to before World War II
