In the early 1920s, Temple Terrace was a small town in Polk County, Florida. It was located on the eastern edge of the county, about 10 miles east of Jacksonville. The town was named after General James Wilkinson and his family who had settled there in 1823. The Wilkinson family operated a large plantation called "The Oaks". In 1923, Temple Terrace became part of Jacksonville. In 1948, the town became part of Lakeland and was renamed “Temple Terrace”. In 1994, it merged with neighboring city of Davenport to form the current city of Davenport-Temple Terrace.

Temple Terrace, Florida is located in Polk County and it is a town of around 10,000 people. The town was founded in 1851 by the father of George Temple, an American politician who served as the 25th Governor of Florida from 1853 to 1861. The current mayor and vice mayor are both Republicans. The community was named after Mount Temple, which is located just east of the town. The first settler in what would become Temple Terrace was John Fenton, who built a cabin on a tract of land that he purchased from the heirs of Captain James Stroud. In 1855, two other settlers - Isaac Stephenson and Peter Holmes - bought land adjacent to Fenton's property and began developing it into a small village called "Bellevue." By 1860, Bellevue had grown to include a post office, schoolhouse, doctor's office and several homes. In 1871, temple Terrace was organized as part of Polk County when it was created from parts of Hillsborough (then Pinellas) County. That year saw the construction of the first courthouse in what would become Temple Terrace - an octagon-shaped building that still stands today. The courthouse played an important role in local government until 1909 when it was replaced by the current structure onBroadway Street. During World War II, Temple Terrace became one of three towns within Polk County that elected officials serve at home during wartime; all others chose to remain uninvolved with military life. In 1951, George Temple died at age 83 while serving as governor; his son George W. Temple succeeded him as governor and later served as U S Senator from Florida before dying in 1998. In recent years, temple Terrace has experienced rapid growth due to its proximity to Tampa Bay and its ability to attract development along Interstate 434 which connects Tampa with Orlando and Jacksonville respectively. Many new businesses have opened up in recent years including restaurants such as Chick-fil-A and Burger King; however some residents continue to accuse developers of pushing out traditional homeowners while concentrate development near schools or shopping malls instead

The name was changed to Temple Terrace in 1837 when local landowner David Boren donated land for a temple to be built there. However, construction never began due to financial difficulties. In 1892, an act of Congress designated Temple Terrace as part of Inverness County and it remained that way until 1990 when it was re-established within Hillsborough County. As part of this process, some maps were updated to reflect current boundaries and Inverness County ceased to exist entirely. The temple is currently being used as a community center and is also home to two restaurants - one operated by the county government and another by private individuals). The property has been owned by Hillsborough County since 1924 when it was purchased from David Boren for $1 million dollars (). Today, most evidence suggests that the temple complex may have been destroyed in anattack by Seminole Indians in early 1900s but there are no definitive proof or allegations against anyone specific.

The first Settlers in Temple Terrace were two brothers, Isaac and Levi Strauss. They came to the area in 1848 and started a small farm. The name of the farm was changed to Strauss after their father, Jacob Strauss. The Strauss family continued to live in the area until they moved to Illinois in 1881.
