Temple Terrace is a small town in Escambia County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pensacola–Ferry Pass–Brent area. Temple Terrace is home to the only mosque in Escambia County and the only Islamic center in the state of Florida. The town has also been called "the Gateway to Pensacola" and "The Town on the Gulf". The first settlers in this area were farmers who arrived around 1812. By 1828, there were nine families living here, all of whom farmed land that now forms part of Escambia County. In 1839, a post office was established here and by 1850, there were twenty-one families living here; ten of which continued to live here until after World War II when they moved out because of economic opportunities in Pensacola. In 1926, an Act of Congress gaveEscambia County its current name: Temple Terrace Township.
