Temple Terrace is located on State Road 9122 north of Pensacola and it is part of the Pensacola–Escambia Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1906 by Methodist missionaries. It was named for John Wesley Temple (1795-1864), an American missionary who had been killed during the Mexican War. In 1911, the first post office opened in the community; it was renamed Temple after John Wesley's son-in-law, Hiram Witherspoon Sumner Jr., also a Methodist missionary and later a U.S. Congressman from Alabama. As of the 2000 census, there were 1,827 people residing in the CDP; 710 of whom lived in the unincorporated communities to which temple Terrace belongs: According tothe 2010 US Census Templesterrange has a population of only 1,711 residents which means that its entire economy revolves around tourism

Temple Terrace is a town in Seminole County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,898 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what is now Temple Terrace were people who found a swamp and built their homes on it in 1836. In 1838, Frontenac County was organized and land grants were given to early pioneers including John C. Frémont, James Kenedy and others. By 1840 there were over 100 residents living in the area that would become known as Temple Terrace. In 1865, one of the most influential men in Seminole County—and later Florida—Samuel Prentiss moved to Temple Terrace from Jacksonville with his family to start a cotton plantation called "Prentiss' Hill". The town center was founded around this time and quickly became an important commercial hub for the surrounding areas due to its good transportation links and easy access to sugarcane crops. During World War II, many military personnel stationed at Fort Brooke near Sanford left their effects behind when they withdrew from the war – some items such as food supplies, guns and clothing – which led to what's now known as "The Heckler-Heller Case". This refers to an incident where soldiers stole food from a local grocery store while on leave in nearby Stonington during 1944-1945; four soldiers were charged with theft but only two got sentences before being released after paying fines. The rest served time or received probationary periods before rejoining service full-time afterwards. As development progressed throughout the 20th century, Temple Terrace experienced rapid growth thanks to its close proximity to Orlando and job opportunities available within commuting distance for workers downtown. Many new businesses opened up during this time including restaurants (such as Joe's Pizza), bars (such as Tom's Barbecue) and retail stores (including Sears). The economy changed again during the late 1990s when telecommunications companies began buying up small towns across America looking for cheap land on which they could build telecommunications towers – this affected Temple Terrace greatly as more than half of all homes in South Daytona had cell phone service by 2002 when that city seceded from Volusia County into Lakeland County
The first major development on the now-vacant lot at Temple Terrace was a Masonic temple in 1876. The building is still standing, and is used as a museum today. Another important event to take place on the site occurred in 1902 when citrus growers founded the Florida Citrus Commission. The commission helped to get some of the early citrus crops into market, and also approved new growing methods that led to increased production.
