Temple Terrace is a small town in Polk County, Florida. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Downtown–Kissimmee, FL Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Temple Terrace" is derived from Indian Chief Temple's land grant to Governor Andrew Jackson in 1836. The original settler who called this place "Temple Grove" was John Nolen and his family in 1837-1838. They moved to what is now Temple Terrace from Morningside Heights, Illinois on December 7th, 1837. A post office called 'Morningside Heights' was established in 1839 but it closed integrated with Polk County in 1902. The first Methodist congregation organized here on November 15th, 1850 were the Baptists led by Revs Gouverneur Morris and Gideon Welles. In 1865 Rev Simeon Day started an academy which became one of the leading high schools in Central Florida until its closure during the 1920s; it reopened as an accredited college/university under new ownership and management in 1978 with a new campus located adjacent to Interstate 4 across from Kissimmee Lakeshore Park (see also: history of Temple Terrace). In 1907 there was a fire that destroyed most of Morningside Heights and killed eight people including four church members while they worshipped inside their home; today only ashes remain from that disaster which still symbolizes much pain for some residents hereabouts eighty years later! On July 14th, 1912 Congress passed H.R 6887 known as the National Defense Act which provided financial assistance for munitions production by American companies warring against Spain; this section specifically exempted 'the inhabitants or citizens of Cuba' from military service! On October 3rd 1913 J.P Morgan & Co., owners of First National Bank met at Masonic Lodge #2 Center Street near Lake Worth Boulevard to purchase 5% interest in United States Steel Corporation for $5 million dollars! This represented one percent of America's entire stock market capitalization at that time! As steel production increased throughout World War I both First National Bank and United States Steel Corp went public becoming among America's largest publicly traded companies! Some other large businesses founded or acquired during those years include RCA Victor Company (which produced phonographs), Atlantic Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T) – parent company of Today's NBCUniversal – Sears Roebuck & Co., Wernham Hogg Paper Merchants Incorporated (owned by DonatellO Salvatore Group Inc.) - world’s first paper store chain –and many more as well... This boom time period also saw major changes take place within the community such as when Stroudsburg Elementary School opened up next door to Holy Cross Catholic Church giving rise to what are now known as 'Old Temples'. Also newly constructed homes began popping up all around town beginning with North Meridian Road just south of US-4 / International Drive being developed into what is now known as 'The Gables'. This area soon became known for its many expensive homes featuring older styling typical of early 20th century suburban development patterns emphasizing gardens instead of driveways/yards etc.; see: MapQuest aerial image below depicting property boundaries circa 2019... Temple Terrace is a small town in Escambia County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,887 at the 2010 census. It lies along State Road 906, about 8 miles (13 km) east of Pensacola and 13 miles (21 km) west of Fort Walton Beach. The first settler in Temple Terrace was James Ewing who arrived in 1847. He built a log cabin on the present site of the town on October 3, 1847. The first post office was established in 1851 and operated under the name "Ewingsville". In 1861, Confederate General Jumper Jones' brigade stopped at Temple Terrace while travelling south to Tallahassee. General Beauregard's division camped near the town during this time and some of General Beauregard's officers were invited to dine with local residents at Mr. Ewing's home which gained them some national notoriety. The town grew rapidly after it became part of Escambia County when it was organized on December 31, 1880 by act of Congress from portions of Santa Rosa County. On January 10-11, 1886, a meeting attended by representatives from all parts of Escambia County voted to incorporate as a village; Temple Terrace became a full municipality on January 17th following ratification by voters in a special election that same day. As an incorporated village, Temple Terrace had several municipal services such as fire protection and zoning; however these functions were split up between Pensacola and Fort Walton Beach municipalities until 1984 when both towns consolidated their ordinances into one single document called "Community Plan" which is still used today by both municipalities for planning purposes only . temple terrace has also annexed sections of unincorporated land located east side Of state road 906
The first temple to be built on the site of today's Temple Terrace was dedicated in 1887. The temple served as a place for religious worship and was also used for political rallies and conventions. In 1951, the Temple Terrace Baptist Church moved from its original location on the corner of Crescent Avenue and North Temple Street to its current location on North Temple Street.
