Temple Terrace is a small town in Leon County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,722 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tallahassee-Putnam City Metropolitan Statistical Area. One of the few remaining antebellum churches in central Florida, it is also home to several fashionable boutiques and high-end restaurants. Temple Terrace has been called "the most beautiful place on Earth" by travel magazines and has been featured on television shows such as "The Office" and "The Real Housewives of Florida". The community first formed in 1892 when two families from nearby Putnamville moved into a log cabin on what is now School Road 3 miles (4 km) east of present-day Temple Terrace. The first temple built in the area was dedicated to Godiva, the goddess whoIRadored horses and drove them through a winepress near present day Deer Park Boulevard. In 1896, Methodist Episcopal missionaries arrived from Georgia with tracts for sale in Central Florida that included land around Temple Terrace. A group of men from Putnamville bought some of the tracts and began construction on what would become known as Zion Baptist Church; their church still stands today across School Road from where they lived until 1915 when they sold their land to a local farmer for $1 per acre (50¢ per hectare). In 1903, an addition to Zion Baptist Church was added – this became known as First Presbyterian Church and remains one of the most prominent buildings in town today. In 1907, another church – Second Presbyterian Church – was built adjacent to Zion Baptist across Euclid Avenue from which it continues to serve today. In 1911, William Henson purchased 640 acres (2 km²) along both sides of School Road north of present day Temple Terrace for $10 per acre ($366/km²). With this purchase he became one of the first landowners within sight or sound of downtown Tallahassee. After years working tirelessly towards his dream - developing what would become known as Temple Terrace - Henson finally received approval from city leaders in 1925 to build his capital city style prison complex on 10 acres (40 m²). This massive structure - now known as Polk Correctional Institution - remains one of Town's most iconic features and remains one of its primary economic engines today! Apostolic Christianity had not yet reached Tallahassee proper until after World War II when Reverend Waddell went door-to-door preaching gospel messages throughout Leon County during that war years alone! His efforts paid off later when many talented young people flocked to learn about Bible studies at our churches while serving our country during WWII! Today we continue these spiritual endeavors through groups like Patriot Prayer which meets monthly at First PresbyterianChurch’s facilities just outside town limits; there are also numerous other religious organizations located throughout village including Jehovah’s Witnesses Home Missionary Society congregation pastor Donnie Green’s property just east side Main Street opposite old post office building & several houses back then), Seventh Day Adventist Chapel Pastor Bob Bickerthal’s house down south corner Stonington Drive next you go past White Sands Missile Range entrance just before you get onto main road going out towards Islamorada), African Methodist Episcopal chapel Pastor Greg Smith’s house uppassy eastern side Orange Blossom Trail intersection), Lutheran Chapel Pastor Rick Swerdlow’s house downeast side Main Street intersection) & many more…We have over 1600 members affiliated with various denominations located throughout this great Village!!!
