Temple Terrace is an unincorporated community in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee-Sanford metropolitan area. The first white person to live in what is now Temple Terrace was James A. White in 1892. He sold land to Fenton Hurlbut and his wife Emmeline for $2,500 in 1893. The White family operated a sawmill from their home until 1915 when the mill closed due to lack of customers. In 1922, builder Wernher Ladd purchased about of land east of downtown Orlando from J B Dillard for $3,000. He built a house on the property and named it "Temple Terrace". Ladd intended it to be a retirement community for physicians and other medical professionals who had retired from practice in downtown Orlando or elsewhere in Orange County.Ladd's dream never came true; however, he did promote Temple Terrace as an agricultural center because of its location near citrus groves and other crops that were then being grown along State Road 7 near Sanford. In 1948, after Wernher Ladd's death, his widow donated the remaining acreage west of downtown Orlando to the city of Orlando with the understanding that it would become a park known as "Ladd Park". In 1957, developer Harry Biddle purchased about block east of Temple Terrace from Mrs Harry Basile for $6 million which he renamed "Basile Park" after himself and his father-in-law Harry Basile Sr.. Biddle planned to develop it into one of Central Florida's largest shopping centers with anchor stores such as Sears Roebuck & Co., Montgomery Ward & Co., J C Penney Co., Chrysler Corporation and Ford Motor Company among others. Unfortunately for him, World War II interrupted development plans when Germany occupied Europe; instead Basile Park became an open-air shopping mall known today as Universal Studios Boulevard.[1] The failed attempt by Biddle to revive Temple Terrace as a retail center led him to sell most of his holdings within two years including Basile Park Properties Inc., which became part of Pulte Homes Incorporated (PHI) upon its creation in 1984 followingDHX's purchase of PHI predecessor Peoples Realty Advisors LP (PRA). PHI was merged into RE/MAX REAL Estate Services Incorporated on October 15th 1999.[2] On July 29th 2005,[3] RE/MAX REAL Estate Services announced that they will be selling all their properties within Realtor Online System[4], which included Temple Terrice properties through their affiliate company American Dream Property Management Agency LLC (ADPMA).[5][6][7][8][9][10] However some sources say that there may still be some residuals left over from dealings between ADPMA and PHI

Harry W. Smith died in 1931, but his sonLewis A., who became president of United States Steel Corporation (USSC), continued father's legacy by becoming one of the most significant private donors to Temple Terrace during its early years. USSC played an important role in helping turn around Citrus County during the Great Depression by providing jobs for numerous residents and expanding economic opportunities for those living thereabouts. In 1949, Lewis A.'s wife Betty married Drury Fenton II, later known as Governor Roy Finch III of Florida; they would eventually have four children together: Drury Fenton III (1951-1984), Kathleen (1955-present), Willie Boyd (1959-2006) and Drury Fenton IV (1982-present). As governor, Finch helped promote Temple Terrace as an upscale retirement community for Floridians seeking peace and quiet amid a rapidly changing world culture; he also established additional streetscapes within the community that are still popular today such as Grove Street which leads directly to Boca Raton Beach or nearby Walt Disney World Resort/SeaWorld Park/. Despite having experienced some tough times throughout its history - including several financial setbacks - Temple Terrace has managed to stay afloat thanks largely to its strong volunteerism program which allows residents access to many resources such as ballots, meetings minutes and other records pertaining to local government at no cost whatsoever.. In recent years however, some members of the community have voiced concerns about how much control handsown volunteers currently have over aspects such as promotional events within their enclave .. However despite these challenges, many residents remain optimistic about their future due primarily to their shared love for their hometown which remains very special unto them
