The Town of Tavares was organized on November 15, 1824 when George Washington Tavares donated land to be developed into a town site. The first store opened in 1830 and two years later the first school was built. In 1835 the first post office was established at Tavares and until 1840 there were no telephone lines in the area. However, due to an epidemic that struck Jacksonville in 1840, many people decided to move to Tavares and it quickly became one of the mostimportant areas in the community. After World War II many jobs were available for veterans returning home from service; however, since they were not always able to find permanent homes they began moving back into Jacksonville until their housing solutions could be found or they acquired new homes elsewhere in Jacksonville Township which also included much development during this time period including one large shopping center that still stands today known as The mall at Jacksonville Landing off Interstate 95 near Clearwater Beach called "The Landing". In 1992 when President Clinton announced his campaign for president he made stops throughout Florida including Tallahassee where he rallied support for his candidacy before traveling down I-95 towards Daytona Beach which he visited with then Governor Lawton Chiles giving speeches at both locations - making it one stop on his nationwide tour marking what would eventually become known as 'the year 2000'. After Clinton's election victory over Al Gore some new development took place such as jobs being created at The mall at Jacksonville Landing while other projects like a casino started being developed around town such as a golf course and restaurant complex now known simply as "The Village" although there are plans underway to change that name too.. Nowadays Tavares remains an important community with its own grocery store (Grocery Outlet Centers), library (Libraries Now Open!), hospital (Putnam Medical Center) along with several restaurants and bars popular among locals like "Pizza Place", "Hamburger House" etc., all within walking distance from each other making it easy to get your food fix whether you're looking for something quick or trying something new!

Tavares was once a thriving fishing village on the Tampa Bay waterfront. But by the late 1800s, it had all but disappeared and its residents were replaced by newcomers from other parts of Florida. In the early 1900s, Tavares was home to a small army of Confederate soldiers who fought in the American Civil War. The town also served as a base for US forces during World War II. Today, Tavares is mostly known for its recreational opportunities - including its numerous golf courses and lakes - as well as its history. The first settlers to Tavares arrived in 1837, when Captain John Brown landed there with his troop of Marines on board USS United States. By 1840, Tavares had become a prosperous fishing village with an estimated population of 100 people. In 1853, Captain James Acheson purchased land at what is now Pinellas County near St Petersburg and built a house called "Avery's Fort." Later that year, Acheson sold his interest in Tavares to John Davenport for $1,000 cash. Davenport named the settlement after him - "Davenport's Landing" - and began developing it into a boomtown based on shipbuilding and fishing. The first post office opened in 1854; within two years, Tavares had become one of Florida's most important ports servicing both Southeastern America and England. By 1865, however, business had started to decline due to over-fishing and lack of opportunity in the local economy; by 1871, only 20 people lived in Tavares proper while 513 boats filled with fisherman took refuge at Avery's Fort. In 1880-81 an actuary named Augustus Crosby established Albertsville (later renamed Jacksonville) as capital of Duval County; AVille became part of Jacksonville when this territory was organized under statehood following the end of Reconstruction in 1876. With no major port open up along Tampa bay during this time period (the industry switched from shipbuilding to shrimp production), navigation became difficult for merchants ashore without access to boats or better shipping capabilities offshore; accordingly many businesses closed down around 1900 throughout much northeastern Florida which contributed greatly to the economic decline led by piracy off Tampa Bay during that time frame
Tavares, Florida was founded in 1844 by Captain John Tavares. The first store in the town was built on the site of present day City Hall. The town rapidly grew and by 1860 had a population of over 120 people. In 1865, Tavares purchased what is now the city hall from the government and began to build it himself. He also constructed a school, church, jail, brewery and other buildings in the town. In 1887, Tavares donated land to establish an airport which would eventually become Palm Beach International Airport.
