Tavares, Florida is a small city located in Pinellas County, Florida. The population was 5,917 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Tavares Municipal Airport is located in the city and serves as a general aviation airport. Tavares is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. Tavares is northeast of Orlando and southwest of Tampa. It is part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Bayport Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Tavares were Frenchmen in 1699 and Spanish men in 1706. In 1810, Tavares was platted as a town by Captain John Smith's expedition on the express command of General James K Taylor. On November 12, 1810, Tavares became a town under the jurisdiction of St Augustine Circuit Court. In 1821, an act was passed giving rise to the Monroe County Agricultural Society which organized into three factions; one favoring Indian removal (the "Old School" faction), one favoring slavery (the "New School" faction), and one maintaining integrated society with both races living together (the "Tavares Settlement" faction). The Old School faction was disbanded in 1827 when they abandoned their Indian Removal plans while the New School faction successfully lobbied for statehood in 1830 which led to their expulsion from Monroe County by Governor Andrew Jackson without allowing them to establish a township within it. In 1840, Avery Bogue opened up his tannery on Creek Road near present day Springbrook Drive and soon began purchasing land east of Tavares for development as well as founding other towns such as Altamonte Springs and Miramar Beach adjacent to him including Lake Buena Vista where he built his mansion still standing today – one of only two original houses ever preserved within Palm Beach County boundaries along with Pompano Beach’s Joe Mancha House also standing today amongst many others examples dating back centuries like this allowed our county to slowly but surely adopt not just landscape but also culture patterns that continue across generations even into this very day
