Tavares, Florida is a small town located in Polk County, Florida. According to the 2010 census, the population of Tavares was 1,724. The name Tavares comes from an old Seminole word meaning "tribe" or "settlement." The first settler in Tavares was John Pritchard and his family who arrived in 1827. In 1840, J.D. Grooms arrived with his family and established a store in Tavares. The town developed around this store until it became a large community with over 100 residents by 1881. By 1893, Tavares had become an organized municipality with its own government and school system. In 1905, the town annexed neighboring unincorporated communities of Belle Glade and Avon Park for municipal purposes; these annexations were confirmed by the Florida state legislature on March 3rd, 1907. From 1909-1912, the town's first mayor was Wm Henson and its first councilmember was Aida Fenton Woodruff. In 1933, when Floridians voted to secede from the United States and form their own country known as Dixie, Tavares voted against secession because it felt that its cultural values would be lost if it leftFlorida behind. After World War II ended in 1945 and America reopened its borders following the war’s end, Tavares grew more active politically due to its proximity to Tallahassee (the capital of Florida). In 1959-1960 developer Ozzie Nelson owned land within the boundaries of present day Tavares which he planned to develop into an exclusive resort area featuring championship golf courses along with high-end homesites priced above $200 thousand dollars per year ago; however nothing came of this plan as Nelson died before completing his project. Despite this lack of success however, Nelson is credited with giving rise to modern day Tavarisians who call themselves simply "Nelsonites." Today there are approximately 300 people living within the limits of present day Pavarotti Boulevard/Hwy 20 & US 301E - making it one of largest concentrations of Portuguese speakers outside Portugal itself! As America entered into a new era characterized by more than just Cold War tensions abroad (and increasingly internal strife at home), so too did "The Showtime Zone" begin expanding rapidly both geographically & ethnically...until finally reaching its current extent today within minutes or even seconds stride away from almost any major city center anywhere in mainland USA! Tavares, Florida is a small town located in Seminole County, Florida. Tavares was founded by John Tavares in 1836. The town was originally named for his brother-in-law, EustacheTTavares. The name was changed to Tavares in 1868 after the death of John Tavares' father. In 1907, Tavares became the county seat of Seminole County and remains so today. According to the 2010 census, the population of Tavares is 624 residents. The history of Tavaris can be traced back to 1836 when John Tavares settled in what is now known as Seminole County on the banks of Tampa Bay. He had been living in Nova Scotia since 1793 and decided to set down roots in what he thought would be a land rich enough for him to grow crops and build a home. After coming ashore at Tampa Bay, he erected a cabin on an island near where present day Veterans Boulevard and Dean Street meet up with Stonington Drive today. This first location served as the family's interim home until they could find permanent soil and build their own house some time later on what is now Indian Trail Road (now US 1). By 1840, John had purchased additionalland east of his original cabin site which he used for growing corn, beans, potatoes and other vegetables while also constructing a crude tannery that supplied salt lake City with rawhide leather from Native Americans who hunted game along the bayous around Tampa Bay . It wasn't until 1850 that he built a more luxurious home which still stands today - it is called "The House On The Key" (later "The Manor"). At this point John began trading goods with Russia through his son EustacheTTavare before finally opening up shop himself at 4500 Hillsborough Avenue southeast of downtown Tampa . By 1861/1862John's daughter Anna married GABRIEL BARROWS who ran one or more sawmills operated out of his parents’ mill yard across from Church Street Methodist Episcopal Zion Aided School ).
