After Easley's death in 1865, his son George Witherspoon took over control of the plantation and changed the name to Tarpon Hills Plantation. This name stuck until 1925 when it was changed again to Tarpon springs after Drury Williamson purchased land here from George Witherspoon. In 1937, during World War II, some residents decided to move from Fort Myers because they felt their hometown had been destroyed by fire during that war. They moved into what is now known as Tropical Park which overlooked parts of Miami Lakes Estates where they built their homes and businesses while still living inside Fort Myers military basecamp! After World War II ended there were many construction projects throughout downtown including The Hammock Resort - one of which led to (and continues) To Beat The Heat nightlife district today! These days we enjoy all thingsautical with both sailboats and jet skis taking advantage of beautiful Lake Kissimmee! OVER TIME WE HAVE ADDED MORE GAS STATIONS BUT MUCH OF OUR INTEREST IN ACTIVITY CENTER HAS BEEN ON VISITORS FROM OUTSIDE OF OUR COMMUNITY WHO LOVE TO SIT AND WATCH US PERFORM LIVE MUSIC OR DANCE AT EVENTS LIKE KISSIMMEE FESTIVAL OR CRAZY SUMMER NIGHT PARTY!!! TODAY THERE ARE SO MANY BUSINESSES THAT IT CAN REALLY CONTAIN NO ONE FOR A LONG TIME BEFORE AN EVENT RELATES BACK TO WHEN THE CITIES FIRST STARTED ESTABLISHING themselves!!!!!
