Tarpon Springs, Florida was home to many shooting ranges throughout its history. One of the earliest and most well-known shooting ranges in Tarpon Springs was the Winchester Rifle Range. The Winchester Rifle Range opened in 1903 and it was one of the first rifle range in America. It still operates today as a classic target range with over 1,000 acres of land. The Winchester Rifle Range also had a pistol range that operated from 1911 until 1969. The pistol range was located on North Tryon Street just across the street from the Winchester Rifle Range. It was open to both civilians and military members. In 1949, a new shotgun range opened in Tarpon Springs called the Gadsden Shotgun Range. This shotguns ranged included 22 long rifles and 12 shotguns as well as pistols and revolvers. In 1951, another rifle range opened in Tarpon Springs called the Gulfstream Gunnery Club Range. This riflerange consisted of 20 guns including six machineguns and 10 handguns. This firearmRange also offered airsoft play for children between ages 6-12 years old at no cost to parents or guardians! These ranges were all part of what is now known as “TheGunShop” complex which includes over 60 Shooting Ranges across Florida!

In 1934, an American company named Weiser Manufacturing Company introduced a new type of shooting target holder which was used with rifles. This particular type of target holder consisted of a metal frame that was attached to the back of a rifle stock by means of a screw. When the rifle was fired, the metal frame would move and create a realistic effect on the target. The Weiser Manufacturing Company's target holders were very successful and were quickly copied by other manufacturers. By 1938, there were over 100 different types of shooting targets available on the market.
Tarpon Springs is a small town in Florida, located on the Gulf of Mexico. The population was 9,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami-Dade County metropolitan area. The name "Tarpon Springs" derived from Spanish meaning "a place where there are tarpon." The first white person to inhabit Tarpon Springs were two men who landed on this coast by ship in 1795. They named their new settlement after a resort that they had seen near Havana, Cuba called "La Roca de los Muertos." In 1827, General James K. Polk visited Tarpon Springs and gave it its present name of Tampa Bay because he thought it would be more suitable for military purposes than Key West which was then known as Spanish Fort. In 1892, Fenton Bros., a shipping firm founded by brothers Fenton and Edward Waddell, moved their business headquarters from New York City to Tampa Bay and purchased land east of Interstate 75 in what is now Tarpon Springs. The company built several warehouses and began shipping cotton and other items around the world through its terminals in downtown Tampa and St Petersburg before moving out to their current site on US-1 south of I-75 in 1922. In 1935, Development Corporation of America bought out the original developers of Tarpon Springs – Fenton Bros., Edwards Brothers (the parents of Edward Waddell), Hargrave-Ferguson & Company (of Jacksonville) – for $2 million dollars plus an indemnity guarantee against any future claims by anyone related to development or ownership during that time period. On November 14th 1935 Hurricane Floyd made landfall just north of Naples Beach as a Category 5 storm with winds up to 175 MPH! As soon as news spread about Floyd’s potential damage within our community we mobilized all efforts necessary for emergency response! We set up shelters open 24/7 with volunteers from churches across our area came together to help get people food, water, power generators etc… life was never the same again! After much testing we had both generators set up so that we could provide power for lights/heat/air conditioning not just for people but also pets which thankfully didn’t impacted too badly considering how powerful Floyd was! A lot has changed since then including technology but one thing has not change; our sense of community spirit! People have always been willing to help each other no matter what happened during these difficult times! From helping restoration projects such as filling in ditches along US 1 following Katrina attempt’s at removing debris until now philanthropy has become an important aspect within our community once again!!! Tarpon Springs is a small town located in central Florida, about 30 miles east of Tampa. Tarpon Springs was founded by planters in the late 1800s as a cotton plantation and grew quickly into a vibrant agricultural community. Today, the town is a thriving center for culture, commerce and shopping. TheoriginsofTarponSprings are shrouded in mystery. Some say that it was named after an Indian word meaning "place where the waves crash," while others claim that the name comes from Spanish terms meaning "cotton field" or "fishing place." Whatever its origins, Tarpon Springs rapidly became one of Florida's most important settlements during the early days of statehood. In 1822, Captain James Wilkinson purchased 640 acres of land in what is now Tarpon Springs from Major John Crouch for £200. The Wilkinson family soon began to develop their plantation and erected several large homes including TARPON SPRINGS HOUSE - still standing today - as well as many other private residences. By 1830, he had developed another 160 acres further west on St Johns River and called it SPRING VALLEY RESERVE which served as his hunting ground and home field office until his death in 1841. His son-in-law William Fenton also developed this area into an important commercial center with its own post office and storerooms until his death in 1865. In 1836, Isaac Sears opened the first general store in Florida – still open today – at 412 E Royal Street (now Spring Street). During this time period there were also some key milestones associated with Tarpon Springs: 1) A school was built within easy walking distance of the courthouse in 1830; 2) A Methodist church was built circa 1840; 3) The first railroad arrived here via steamboats in 1851; 4) The first hotel – THE WHITE HOUSE – opened its doors on Saturday April 25th, 1861; 5) On January 16th1875 officers from Fort Brooke took possession of what is now known as CHURCH STREET WOODS military reservation adjacent to present day Spring Street; 6) On October 1st1875 myriads ofanticertainableflowersGone wildatPinellas ParkwhiletheAttractionswereclosedduetotheseasonal drought; 7) In 1886 Dr J H McGillivray established Jacksonville General Hospital here on Stillwater Creek near present day US 41A . 8 ) In 1907 Lowndes County acquired much of what is now Crystal Lake from Orlando businessman Arthur Ashe for $2 million dollars making it one of Florida's largest agricultural acquisitions ever made *. 9 ) After World War II redevelopment continued with new housing developments being constructed along Clearwater Beach Boulevard between US 191E and US 27*10*)TodayTarponspringsis twinned with BrugesBelgiumandLübeckGermany
