Many of these early settlers returned home after arriving in North America or died during their journey here; however, many families still remain descendants of these original arrivals today. In 1818 Nicholas Flournoy organized a group of British volunteers under Colonel James Wilkinson to help protect American traders operating along Lake Erie from hostile Native American tribes known collectively as The Seminoles or Eastern Creek Nation (*see footnote below*). After successfully suppressing this attack upon American shipping within two months with only minimal losses inflicted on his unit - including one dead Indian - Wilkinson became known as "Jackie Robinson" because he had singlehandedly accomplished this daring task without any combat experience whatsoever! This resulted in numerous skirmishes *between citizens & Mosquitoes*: *In 1827 several residents formed The Citizens'Mosquito Committee To Eliminate Mosquitoes From Their Neighborhoods** [*See footnote below*]…. † During this same year another private company attempted unsuccessfully to purchase alligator rights off US 41 just south OF Downtown Tampa… ‡ By 1830 mosquitoes had become so brazenly rampant throughout southeast Hillsborough County that local Congressman David Wilcox proposed creating anagency designated specificallyTo eradicate them: The Department Of Agriculture And Fisheries
