In 1847, a group of men from St. Petersburg set out to found a new town in what is now the city of Tampa. They named their settlement "Tampa" after the two main rivers that ran through it: the Hillsborough River and the Tampa Bay. The land where today's downtown sits was first settled by Native Americans in the area that is now Tampa. At one point, there were over 20 villages located within this area! The early settlers had to use whatever weapons they could find to protect themselves against raiders and other animals roaming the tract of land that was home to them. Some of these primitive guns were made from hickory logs which were then soaked in water and then shaped into a rifle barrel. These rifles were so efficient that they quickly became popular among pioneers! As time passed, more people arrived in Tampa, and gun sights started becoming more common on property owned by wealthy landowners. By 1853, there were at least 12 pistol ranges located within walking distance of downtown! This proliferation of pistols led to even more development around firearms throughout much of Tampa's history! In 1907, Mayor James Buchanan helped pass an ordinance making it a crime for anyone under 21 years old to carry any firearm without a license or permit! This ordinance strictly regulated handgunsand made it difficult for young adults who did not have proper training to obtain licenses or possess firearms safely. This law still applies today in much of Florida!

This system continued to be used by US military forces into World War II and beyond, primarily because it was easier and faster than traditional optical sights for riflesmen. At some point around 1910 or 1920, someone started developing a simple crosshair-style handgunsight known as simply “a dot” or “dot-and-dot” sight design. This design featured a small hole in one endical (the front part of the sight), through which you place your eye when looking down at your target; then you place your finger over this hole and press down onto yourshooters cheekpiece (to create interference), making sure you click your focuser off when you have achieved perfect aim—all without ever taking your hand off the gun! This type of handgunsight quickly became popular among experienced shooters because it offered great clarity and accuracy both while shooting prone and while kneeling or standing over a target – regardless of whether or not there is any obstruction between yourself and your target(s). These days, almost all modern handguns include dot sights as standard equipment!
The first real, effective rifle sights were invented by Nicholas-Jacques Conte in 1795. They were a type of elevation tool that allowed the shooter to maintain targetacement on their gun while adjusting the bore axis. The conical sight was patented in 1802 and became popularized by Captain James Cook in his influential chronicle, "A Voyage to Australia" (1770).
