Tamarac is a city in Broward County, Florida, United States. The population was 16,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Broward County and the home to Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport. The area that now Tamarac was first populated by Native Americans in 1763 when Spain ceded it to Great Britain as part of the Treaty of Paris following the American Revolutionary War. The name "Tamarac" likely comes from "tamara", meaning 'place where a turtle lays its eggs'. In 1824, Captain John Stroud purchased 625 acres (2 km²) of land from Juan Ponce de León for $200. He named his new plantation Tamarac Plantation after his mother's maiden name, Maria Theresa de la Concepción Gutierrez y Costilla. TAMARAC became an incorporated town on December 13th, 1892." In 1909, Hurricane Andrew destroyed much of what remains of the old town and caused extensive damage to infrastructure such as roads and schools; however, TAMARAC rebuilt rapidly with help from private donations and government assistance. On October 15th 1959 TAMARAC hosted world's first air show when Republic Aviation Corporation staged an emergency landing on runway 10 at Clearwater Beach because their CF-18 Hornet fighter could not take off due to broken wings caused by Hurricane Wilma

Tamarac, Florida is a small town in Duval County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1836 by settlers from Virginia and Maryland. Tamarac got its name from the Tarahumara Indian tribe who lived in the area before white settlement began. The first store opened in 1851 and development grew slowly until around 1910 when a new railroad station was built and Tamarac became an important center for commerce and farming. The post office closed in 1944 but has been reopened as a library since 1989. Today,Tamarac is home to a variety of businesses including two grocery stores, four banks, three restaurants and one lumberyard. A number of churches have also been founded in recent years including First Baptist Church (1896), Christ Episcopal Church (1914), Methodist Episcopal Church (1945) and Presbyterian Dutch Reformed Church (1973). There are also several golf courses located within driving distance of the town which make it an attractive place to live or visit during any season.
Tamarac was a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States until it was merged with the neighboring city of Doral on March 1, 2003. Tamarac had a population of about 5400 as of 2000. The merging created a new city government and included all residents of Tamarac and Doral who were registered to vote in either city.
