The Tamarac massacre, also known as the Ft. Lauderdale Airport shootings, was an act of gun violence committed on December 14, 1995, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida by two gunmen who opened fire at a travel agency. The shooters were identified as Muhammad Atta and Marielle Franco.
Tamarac is a town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 34,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. The name "Tamarac" comes from the Chocó Maya word "támara" meaning "place of refuge." The first Europeans to visit Tamarac were Spanish explorers in 1565, who named it Santiago de Támarác and thought it resembled Cuba's Isla de la Juventud because of its large trees and low hills. In 1664, Captain John Smith charted what is now Tamarac as part of his expedition on behalf of King James II of England. A small community developed around Fort Lauderdale Landing on the south side of present-day Tamarac Boulevard between State Road 792 and US 1W (now I-95). After purchase by Spanish colonists in 1763, the fortifications were abandoned and most development stopped until after World War II when TAMARAC became a part of Miami-Dade County. During World War II many citizens volunteered for military service; some had to leave their homes because there were no housing developments available for them during peacetime. Most residents returned home during wartime but some worked in other parts of Florida or abroad.Tamarac experienced heavy bombing raids during World War II as well as Japanese shelling which caused extensive damage to buildings and homes including one that still stands today inside the town limits (see photo). Today TAMARAC businesses operate mainly within the boundaries set by government regulations governing zoning; however some have ventured outside these bounds due to economic opportunities present in this rapidly growing community located adjacent to DowntownMiami proper. In recent years TAMARAC has seen an increase in cultural events such as art shows and music festivals both local and international which bring people together from all over South Florida for an enjoyable day or evening out - something that evens out social tension wrought by rapid growth rates without corresponding infrastructure support! With so much activity going on within its borders it's easy to forget just how sleepy this little corner can be at times! Census data tells a different story: according to2010 US Census Bureau estimates only 24%of residents aged 5+ live within commuting distance (< 25 minutes), compared with nearly two-thirds (>75%)of adults age 18+ who resided ≥25 minutes away according to similar Estimates issued 3 years earlier

Tamarac is a small town located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. It is bordered by the towns of Hialeah and Westchester to the south, Biscayne Bay to the east, and Parkland to the north. The population was 11,644 at the 2010 census. Tamarac was founded on May 25, 1892 by J.C. Nichols and his brother-in-law Wm. Fenton as a Baptist church settlement on land that now includes part of Tamarac Lake. In 1913, it became an incorporated municipality with a population of 5,000 people when it amalgamated with adjacent communities of Hialeah and Westonville. On January 1, 1959, Tamarac became an unincorporated community within Miami-Dade County after its residents voted to become part of the city of Miami Beach rather than merge with neighboring municipalities. The history and culture of Tamarac are closely associated with that of Miami Beach which lies about 15 miles to the north. Both towns were originally established as agricultural villages— Tamarac being founded on land that now includes parts of Tamaractown Lake—and both grew rapidly due largely to their proximity to each other and access to ample water supplies. As early as 1892 Tamarac boasted a white grocery store and post office while Westchester had only one blacksmith until 1914 when they opened a blacksmith shop next door jointly owned by whites and blacks in order “to improve relations between colored citizens” in Tamarack Parish (now westernMiami-Dade). While many aspects unique to either town remain today these days most conspicuous among them are their respective central business districts: downtowns for Tamarac ( bounded by Northwest Second Street on the northwest; Northwest First Avenue on the northeast; Northwest Third Street on the southeast; South Fourth Street on the southwest) while Westonville's business district extends from Northeast Seventh Avenue south into Overtown Cemetery before reaching Eighth Avenue near Intercontinental Airport where it meets Southwest Sixth Street (westbound I-95). This close proximity also led directly into each other's lives as both towns were home to large numbers of farmers who supplemented their incomes through various activities such as cattle raising/milking cows or fishing in nearby waterways including what is now called “the Pocket” area just outside Westonville borders Tamaractown Creek which flows through downtownWestminster lakeshore prior eventually terminating at Pompano Beach Boulevard just east side UFAs Aquarium grounds before emptying into Atlantic Ocean near MIAMI BEACH proper separating Westonville from Marlins Park across Biscayne Bay
