Tamarac is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville–Boca Raton metropolitan area. The name "Tamarac" comes from the Seminole word "tama", meaning "flatland." The town was founded by white settlers in 1892 and named after Tamarack Island, located in Lake Okeechobee. The island's name has been changed several times over the years and it is now called Palm Beach County Park Isle due to its close proximity to Palm Beach Gardens. According to the 2010 census, Tamarac has a total area of ; of this, (or 98%) is land and (or 2%) is water. As of 2000, there were 1,711 people residing in Tamarac; 915 households out of which had children under the age of 18 living with them, 708 households were unmarried opposite-sex partnerships, and 362 families were made up of unrelated individuals. In 2000, there were no housing units that featured both a primary residence and an attached garage. In 2007 eight new homes went up for sale in downtown Tamarac – one duplex on Airport Boulevard between Ninth Street NW and Tenth Street NW as well as two condominiums on Third Avenue SW just east of I-10 exit 5A near US-1A/SR 828 W just south of Veterans Memorial Drive NE

In 1855, James Wetherbee bought two hundred acres of land in the area which he named after his friend and business partner Moses Levy (1795-1864). Tamarac post office opened on November 3, 1879. The First Baptist Church was built in 1870 and is still standing today with its original congregation of over 100 people. One of the first businesses in town was J F Ellison's grocery store which opened on October 15th, 1886 by J F Ellison himself. This store would later become known as JJ's Grocery which became one of the most successful stores in town until it closed its doors for good in 1990 due to consolidations within local grocers chains throughout America during that time period The Second Baptist Church was built in 1907 by Reverend Elisha Hogue and remains an active presence today with many services being held each week including Sunday school classes for grades K-8 as well as adult Bible studies for those age 21 or older . Prior to thisChurch there were no services offered Sundays other than private family gatherings TheTamarac Historical Society has been functioning since 1978 providing archives and research services to both locals and tourists alike helping preserve our village’s unique history while also creating educational opportunities for students grades pre-kindergarten through 12th grade
Tamarac is a town in Seminole County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,846 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village of Tamarac was incorporated in 1888 and became a city in 1907. In 1959, it merged with St Petersburg to form the Tampa–St Petersburg–Clearwater metropolitan area.
