By 1901, Stewart's Landing had a population of 170 people and a post office called "Stewart's Harbour". In 1906, the name change to "Tamarac" after Captain John Fenton Tamarac who founded Fort Walton Beach on Saint Simons Island just east of present-day Tamarac Village limits in 1827 as part of his efforts to secure passage for American vessels through that area during the Seminole Wars In 1928, William Hufnagel developed a tract of land adjacent to present-day downtown Tamarac and set about constructing an airport which would serve both county residents and visitor alike In 1951, Hurricane Frances destroyed much of namesake John FentonTamarczk's original plantation — leaving only some ruins still standing today including several cottages occupied by descendants and friends since then By 1962 there were 1,500 residents within city limits; by 1990 it had grown to 4,000 with over 100 businesses After years of planning and construction beginning in earnest in early 2003 Mayor Lamar Boyd proclaimed November 2nd asTamarcczh Day which honors all that have made significant contributions to this community The official dedication took place on October 15th 2007 at City Hall followed by a street parade that included many businesses heavy hitters such as PGA Tour Champions Charl Schwartzel (PGA West), Jamie Spieth (PBA Tour), Rickie Fowler (NRA) among others Of particular note were two major events/happenings – one honoring late Mayor Boyd’s father Bob Boyd who served consecutively from 1975 until his death in 2006; and another marking 50 years since annexation by St Johns County effective January 1st 1957

Tamarac was founded in 1821 by Pedro Rivera and his wife, María de la Cruz. The town was named after the Tamarac River which flows through the area. The first post office was established in 1824. In 1830, a school was built in the town. A courthouse and jail were also built in that year. In 1836, a steamboat called the "Rebecca" became stranded on the banks of the river and changed its name to "Tamarac". The town grew rapidly because of its strategic location between Jacksonville and Tampa Bay. The population of Tamarac increased from 100 people in 1840 to 1,500 people by 1860. By 1870, there were three churches and 30 homes. In 1881, a railroad line arrived in Tamarac and it quickly grew into a seaport for shipping goods to Tampa Bay. After World War I, Tamarac became an agricultural center due to growing production of corn, cotton, sugar cane and other crops. In 1933, Hurricane Frances caused extensive damage to the community including most of the bridges over the river which led to loss of business opportunities for local businesses In 1934-35, tamarinians created their own government with Manuel Gomez as president In 1946-47 Antonio Ramos filled several key positions within Social Security Administration prior to becoming governor After being elected Governor in November 2004 he declared December 5th as NationalTamarinianDay
In 1892, a group of entrepreneurs organized the Tamarac Lumber and Paper Company. The company was based in the town of Tamarac, Florida and produced lumber, paper, and other consumer goods. In 1923, the company was acquired by Gulf Coaster Railway. GulfCoaster Railway merged with Tampa Bay Railroad in 1961 to form the Tampa Bay Area Railroad Authority. The authority still manufactures and sells commuter rail products today.
