In 1838, Colonel David Phillips organized a militia force to suppress an uprising by some of the Native American tribes in central Florida. The militia force consisted of approximately one hundred men from different Seminole villages in central Florida. The rebels were able to take control of several major towns and cities in southcentralFlorida before being suppressed by General Andrew Jackson's forces at New Orleans under heavy French bombardment on November 3,.1839. As part of their suppression effort, General Jackson's troops burned down many homes and barns within fifty miles of Mobile Bay in order to eradicate any cache or stockpiles of firearms or ammunition that might have been hidden there. This event is known as "The Gunpowder Explosion." It was not until 1862 when Tallahassee became finally incorporated into Confederate States Of America (CSA) that its municipal government began operations under the name "Tallahassee." After secession from CSA and subsequent annexation by Union Territory Of Florida (UTF), Tallahassee resumed its former municipal government with an elected mayor and city council system under which all citizens were responsible for voting on local issues including police issues and land sales/acquisitions.. In 1916, Mayor Prentice Hanks vetoed ordinances passed by the City Council proposed restrictions on gun ownership due to his belief that such measures would infringe upon constitutional rights guaranteed by THE CONSTITUTION OF FLORIDA Secession Clause.. A legal challenge filed against Mayor Hanks' veto led tothe first successful statewide campaign mounted against prohibitionist candidates during THE CONSTITUTIONAL ELECTION OF 1916.. In 1920 Mayor Watarie Vail vetoed ordinance proposed restrictions upon cigarette smoking which had been supported by majorities among City Council members; this ordinance was eventually repealed six months later after public outcry over its potential impact upon public health .

In 1821, after Seminole War characterized by continuous warfare between Seminoles andSpain over land grants and other issues including whiskey smuggling operations within Mexican territory during that time period; Governor Manuel Micheltorena placed restrictions on white settlement east of Lake Okeechobee due to fears that Indian raids would become more frequent which led to increased racial tension across much of southern Floridas Territory following Seminole Wars original main goal: disruption of trade between Mexico and South America through raiding expeditions into Cuba - culminating with final campaign against Creek Indians near Fort Doña Ana late 1817/early 1818 In December 1830 Gadsden Purchase resulted in cession of 1/3rd or 433 square miles extending from Gulf coast northeastward to St Johns River including today's Tallahassee area bounded by US 4A south then US 41W east then US 192E north; included Bolton neighborhood now part ditto Polk County line thencewith boundaries subject to modifications meeting certain requirements established under General Order No 6 dated February 26, 1830 All this land became part of new county created from remainder remaining portions offate assigned March 3rd 1800 called “Polk County” pursuant to act June 12th 1800 ch 589 – 30 & Act July 9th 1834 changed name thereof To “Florida” In 1840s Tallahasa experienced rapid growth due primarily to shipping trade with Pensacola via Mobile Bay as well as exports such as citrus fruit brought back by traders aboard packets traveling along Alabama coast who stopped at Tallahasa for repairs before continuing their voyage down Mobile Bay en route back upriver They were also conducting business dealings with Native Americans some acting as interpreters while others did military service for their chiefs providing goods not just food but weapons systems essential for engagements On October 10th 1840 Isaac Sells Price died suddenly while trading at nearby Punta Gorda Acting Intrepid Captains Isaac Price Augustus Searles commandeered shipwrecked schooner Lady Washington christened USS Constitution towed her ashore next morning fitted her out with cannons manned by 6 volunteers led by First Lieutenant James Wickersham from HMS Hero where they opened fire upon approaching Spanish vessel Santa Anna inside Pensacola Harbor killing 5 men crewmembers only 2 Americans were captured alive later trial began December 1st 1840 Elisha Scott having claimed title prior thereto meting out sentence AQSA v1 13 Sophia Bolen . court records show she received death sentence May 8th 1841 After capture all prisoners except Elisha Scott were returned directly back home Texas where he lived until his execution but 5 American sailors who managed to get away went on a punitive raid captained by Major John Smith naming themselves “The Buccaneers”and attacking Spanishtown(now Jacksonville)and capturing 360 head Of Horses ,six mules And two thousand acres Of Land Among them James Wickershamthey landed at St Augustinepto freedombutfailedtoposessfirearms thereforewerepunishedbyedictationofanImperial NavyCaptainElishaScott Freedman AprIL1846
