Sweetwater, Florida is a city in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 11,481 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Polk County. The name "Sweetwater" comes from the Miami and Gulf Stream Rivers that converge near the city limits. The city boundaries had been changing for centuries before it came to be as it now stands:sweetwater Creek flows into bayous along US-4W from east to west, paralleling I-95 just south of town; SW 1/2 mile of US-4E forms an eastern boundary with Clearwater Beach; and NW 3/8 mile of US 4E forms a western boundary with Fort Myers Beach. In 1907 Sweetwater was incorporated as a town by order of Govt. Stroudsburg (now Tampa). Although not included among the new towns formed in 1907 (Stroudsburg being annexed by Tampa), Sweetwater did take its name from this original location when it was reincorporated in 1910. In 1911 Hurricane Andrew destroyed or damaged many homes in Sweetwater and other nearby towns making reconstruction difficult and sometimes impossible so much so that some residents chose to abandon their homes and return after the storm passed. Some time later on October 26th 1912 sweet water Bridge opened when state road SR 16 crossed over Bayou Cajun d’Orleans just south of town connecting sweet water creek with gulf stream flowing through town
Sweetwater is a small town in Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater, FL Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1881 by John Sweet and his wife Anna as a small community on the banks of the St . Johns River. The name came from their discovery of sugarcane near what is now Sweetwater Creek. In 1907, they built the first school in Sweetwater and by 1912 had a post office and store. The sweet potato crop brought great prosperity to the town during World War I; mills produced munitions for America’s war effort. With Prohibition being enforced in 1920 and 1923, Output fell but with new investments such as retailing around 1990 it has started to grow again In recent years there has been an increase of development including two subdivisions named after President George Washington (1792-1849) – Mount Vernon East and Mount Vernon West – two golf courses - St Andrews Golf Course which opened in 2006 and White Sands Golf Course which opened in 2008 There are also several businesses that have sprung up around the town such as Midas Auto Parts located off US 98 just south of town, Capital City Pawnbrokers which offers services such as pawn shopping, auto repairs/maintenance etc., as well as souvenir sales at Pioneer Courthouse Square

Sweetwater is a town located in Lee County, Florida, United States. The population was 4,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tallahassee-Cleveland, FL Metropolitan Statistical Area. Sweetwater is bordered by Lakeland to the west and northeast; neighboring towns include Pompano Beach to the northwest and Largo to the east. The first people to live in Sweetwater were men who came overland from Georgia in 1824. They built a log cabin and named it Sweetwater after their sweet water creek which they found near their settlement. In 1828, two farmers from Tennessee, John Crouch and James Allbright bought land in Sweetwater from these men for $1 per acre In 1830, Jno. Bledsoe platted what is now Sweetwater on land that he had acquired from David Laney of Jacksonville for $14 per acre Bledsoe named his new community "Eastville" after Eastville (now Chattanooga) Tennessee where he had been born some years earlier. He also built a grist mill here on Clear Creek which served as both a village store and post office until 1896 when it was moved to Pompano Beach so that it could be closer to Interstate 75 In 1835, George Washington Bainbridge purchased 640 acres of land just north of Sweetwater along Clear Creek which became known as Bainbridge Island Bainbridge made this purchase as part of his strategy to develop the area into a key commercial center due to its natural resources such as sugarcane, cottonwood timber, Seminole Chief's Landing (now called Fort Myers), cattle drives through the area and access to Key West . He also created an artificial island off shore with dockage facilities for shipping goods arriving via Tampa Bay . By 1840 there were 10 buildings including 2 churches and 6 homes within site boundaries In 1845 James Mallow erected one of Tallahassee's first brick structures – The State House – on Bainbridge Island following instructions from Governor Andrew Jackson who noted that ""the better government can be administered only by those who are near at hand"" . In 1850 Josephine Watkins married Mallow here .
