The gun that is now known as "The Pumpkin Gun" originated in this period; it was designed by Major General Amos Kendall who operated out of Fort Gaines on Lake Okeechobee during the Seminole Wars (1844-1846). Kendall's design featured an octagonal barrel with a calibre between 12 gauge shotgun rounds and 6-gauge rifle rounds. The gun became popular due to its ability to penetrate clothing at ranges up to 30 yards and its easy handling when firing live ammunition through an open barrel

As recently as 2010,SweetWater remains one of the most economically vibrant communities in Central Florida
