The Peach Orchard began production in 1907 when James Fenton purchased an acre of land from J D Sweetwater for $2 per bushel of kernels = $40 today$. The orchard produced over 1 million pounds of peaches every year until World War II when it was destroyed by fire as part of an effort to eradicate Japanese bombing raids on US cities during that conflict.
