Sweetwater is a small town in Citrus County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,951 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Combined Statistical Area. The first settlers in Sweetwater were two brothers, Isaac and Edward Sweetwater, who established a farm on what is now State Road 7 about 1825. They also built a small store and used their home as an office for their father's law firm. In 1835, Isaac and his brother-in-law James Bogue built the first school in Sweetwater. A post office was established in 1836 and named after Mrs. Bogue's daughter Caroline (Catherine). In 1860, the name of the town changed to Sweetwater when it became apparent that one of its founders had mistakenly spelled "sweet" with a "k" instead of an "a." In 1870 John Crouch opened a general store in sweet water which continued to be successful until 1907 when it closed due to financial troubles. That same year railroad entrepreneur Elisha Thornton bought the store from Crouch for $2,000 cash plus ten acres (40 hectares) of land where he built Thornton's Depot station (now known as Thornton Park). Thornton soon discovered that sweet water could not support more than one stores per mile so he decided to build several smaller stations throughout his empire which would serve travelers arriving from other parts of Florida. One such station was located just north of present day Sweetwater on Ulysses S Grant Boulevard near present day Grady College/University Trail intersection which served passengers coming southbound from Sanford on US Highway 441 through Kissimmee on their way north to Jacksonville or Daytona Beach via US Highway 1A or US Highway 9B; this station was known as Elisha Thornton's Depot Annex. In 1912 James Hogg opened another general store in sweet water which operated until 1951 when it closed due to family troubles; however local historians have placed this store at least between 1915 and 1918 inside what is now Grady College/University Trail intersection next to present day I-4 exit 407A (Ulysses S Grant Boulevard/Grady Campus Drive). After Hogg’s store failed there appeared also to be no genuine attempt by anyone else since then by either rename or relocate this old fashioned business corner location back into sweet water center we had been searching for years finally finding our answer Thanks Jimmie! Now all we need are some evidence that someone actually moved shop from here over time

The area that is now Sweetwater was first settled by Seminoles in the early 1800s. The first white man to visit the area was Capt. John Smith, who led a group of English settlers in 1783. In 1811, a group of Spanish adventurers founded a mission at what is now Fort Hughes on the east side of the Apalachicola River. By 1814, Sweetwater had become an important trading post between Mobile and Pensacola. In 1821, General Andrew Jackson moved his army through central Alabama to attack Mobile and besiege Fort Moselle. After spending two months siegeing the fort, Jackson destroyed it with cannon fire on February 14, 1821. This event became known as the Battle of Mobile Bay. Sweetwater grew rapidly after this victory and by 1830 it had 10 homes, 10 businesses and 30 people living there. By 1840, Sweetwater had over 100 residents and three churches were operating in town. The main commercial activity at this time was farming but also some saw development into business ventures such as cattle raising and whaling operations which would continue until after World War II when production shifted towards manufacturing activities such as automobiles and shipbuilding
