Sweetwater, Florida is a small town located in Polk County, Florida. It is home to the Sweetwater Rifle & Pistol Club and the Sweetwater Gun Museum. The club has been in business since 1912. In that year, it was established as the Citizens' Riflemen's Association of Polk County. In 1916, it became known as the Sweetwater Rifle & Pistol Club and its first president was Wm J. Hickey. The club hosted its first gun show in 1922 and held its second show in 1925. From 1926 until 1953, the club operated out of the old First National Bank building on Main Street. Between 1951 and 1957, it used the old Methodist Episcopal Church on West Third Street as its clubhouse. From 1959 until 1963, it made use of the former Weaver Furniture store on East Third Street as its clubhouse again. The club also operated a number of gun ranges throughout its history including: an 8-meter rifle range; a 30-meter pistol range; a 20-meter shotgun range; an 18-inch revolver range; an 11-inch rifle range; and an 8mm handgun range which served as both training ground for new members and competition arena for existing members. In 1973, following passage of the National Firearms Act (NFA), which banned handguns within certain limits by federally licensed dealers across America with exceptions for hunting purposes), Sweetwater NRA conducted a referendum vote to ban all handguns from membership in their organization effective January 1st 1974 inclusive due to these restrictions being placed upon them by law enforcement authorities throughout America at that time . The referendum result was 2/3 majority in favor of such action against firearm ownership by NRA members within their organization thereby banning all handguns from future membership rolls without any further recourse than expulsion or dissolution within those ranks! The club currently operates out of two locations - one located on Olustee Road near US 231 northbound exit (the current location) while another facility is under construction on Caribbean Drive just east of I-10 near exit 126A (the planned future location). Both facilities are equipped with state-of-the art shooting ranges providing fresh offshoot ammo options to anyone who desired them!

The name stuck and the community grew rapidly until World War II when it lost its status as an unincorporated village because it was within boundaries of Tallahassee. In 1948, Sweetwater became a town when it merged with nearby Winter Haven. It has since grown again due to its proximity to state university campuses and job opportunities in both local and statewide businesses. Today, Sweetwater is home to many stores including Dick's Sporting Goods, Bed Bath & Beyond, Lowe's Home Improvement Center and JCPenney Department Store which are all major employers in the area. Sweetwater also enjoys a variety of cultural attractions such as museums ( founded in 1892 ), arts galleries (founded in 1984 ), golf courses ( seven of which are located outside of town), fishing tournaments (held every other month) and summer events like Shakespearefest or carnivals
Sweetwater was founded in 1882 by a group of men led by Colonel John Sweetwater. The town grew rapidly, and in 1907 the first school was built. In 1912, the first grocery store opened. By 1916, Sweetwater had a post office, a doctor, a bank, and several businesses. In 1936, the first ever high school was established in sweetwater. A year later, the first Baptist church was also established in sweetwater. The community experienced rapid growth during World War II when many residents served in the military or worked at local factories. After the war ended, there were few new arrivals until the late 1990s when people began moving to Sweetwater again to enjoy its natural resources and quiet atmosphere
