The store was built with three layers of metal: the outer layer was made from wrought iron, while the middle layer was made out of brass. The inside of the store had a wooden door which required an employee to open it using a key to gain entry. Once inside, customers were allowed to purchase goods or use the restroom without fear of being robbed or attacked. The town also began to build gun locks for their residents soon after its founding. One such lock is believed to have been built by Captain John Sweet himself. This lock consisted of four pieces which were placed around each other so that they formed an X shape. The first store in Sweetwater opened about 1840 by Hernando Sánchez and Jno Fields; it closed about 1850 due to lack of customers. In 1861 Governor John Fenton ordered the evacuation of most Seminole Indians living east of Tallahassee because they had taken up arms against Confederate forces during the American Civil War. Most were brought to Georgia or Oklahoma where they were incarcerated or killed.. A post office called Bellefontaine was established at sweetewater on December 12, 1865; it closed on October 15, 1966 because no mail could be delivered there due to construction work near Interstate 10 between Bellefontaine and Pensacola. In 1907 when Pensacola annexed Escambia County, much speculation occurred as to what would happen to Sweetwater since its county seat would remain within Escambia but its mailing ZIP code would change from 93501 to 32803. Ultimately nothing happened as Escambia county decided not to annex any more municipalities without unanimous consent from all residents within that municipality: this decision remains unchanged today despite many petitions over the years! On October 7th 1902 a hurricane struck Florida causing extensive damage primarily in Tampa Bay area including downtown Tampa which destroyed 30% of homes and businesses with loss figures reaching $1 million dollars according to one report[1].
