In that year, a man by the name of Charles Smith purchased two sets of binoculars from an entrepreneur named John Wiley. The first set was used for hunting and fishing and the second set was used for surveying and mapping. By 1881, there were at least six businesses in Sweetwater that were selling binoculars.
Sweetwater, Florida is a small town in Seminole County, Florida. The population was 7,070 at the 2000 census. It is located on the Altamonte Springs-Ocala Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Sweetwater were French Canadians who named the area "L'Acadie" after their homeland of Acadia in Nova Scotia. A post office was established here on October 15, 1868, by General James W. Cooke with the name "Bellefontaine". In 1875, a sawmill and gristmill were built by George Ritchie and they called it Bellefontaine Mills. In 1898, a cotton gin was built by Isham Beall and this became one of the most important businesses in Sweetwater until it closed its doors in 1951. The towns current name comes from John Steele's remark that "place like this needs no other name." The first settler to homestead here was Mr. Arthur Reeves on November 15th of 1907. By 1912 there were six homes and three stores in the town limits including one operated by JB Hickey which still stands today as an historic building known as Hickey's Drug Store #2. Two years later we had our first school - Mrs Knoppers First School#1 - which opened its doors on February 6th 1914 under Superintendent Fenton & his wife Otha Mae who taught for two years before moving to Belmont School where she taught for many more years until her retirement in 1984). With these early beginnings came growth and progress including construction of a water tower (now known as Grady High School) thanks to Harvey Ladds whose family founded Ladds Hardware Company back then which still exists today with several branches throughout central Florida however with only online sales now! In 1922 Frank Webb started operating Our Lady Of Charity Hospital so during those early days things really did move quickly for sweetwater! One major milestone during this time was when Mr Webb donated 20 acres near present day downtown sweetwater to expand upon his previous land grant from Governor Keyes for use as a parkland/state fairgrounds area complete with picnic areas etc...(It wasn't long before we would also see some other local businessmen donate additional land over time such as Al Lawson who donated 192 acres east of town just north of Interstate 75) making sweetwater one big business community! Here we are almost 100 years later and all indications are that Sweetwater will continue to grow continuously into the future thanks both to our people and businesses who have helped make us what we are today!

Sweetwater is a small town in Martin County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1868 by J.H. Sweet and his family as a cotton plantation on the banks of the St Johns River. The first settler in sweetwater was James Henshaw who arrived in 1868 from Georgia with his wife Mary and their two children, James Fenton and Virginia Fenton Sweet. In 1870, the Sweet family sold their land to John Loyd for $1,000 and moved to what is now sweetwater Ferry Road which crossed the river near present day Loyd Park. In 1875, Anna Purdy bought land north of sweetwater for $4 per acre from Jno Dickson and built a home there called "Purdy's Grove". She continued to live there until her death in 1925. One of her sons-in-law named Earle Tufts moved into "Purdy's Grove" after she died and continued living there until his death in 1969. He left it to his granddaughter Joy Tufts who continues to live there today with her husband Rick Tufts (a developer). The first school in sweetwater was opened by Mrs Aikenbaugh in1879 after being erected on some adjoining property by Elisha Pinkney Sr., one of the original settlers of sweetwater Ferry Rd.. Mrs Aikenbaugh served as both teacher and principal from that time until 1903 when she resigned because she became ill with cancer; however, her classes continued until 1903 when term ended without notice due to weather conditions which made travel necessary for farmers attending local fairs or markets throughout most of Florida at that time... In 1905 Mrs Jane Rankin teaching 2nd grade at Old Fort Middle School across streetopened her doors as an all female school during weekdays mornings only (when other schools were closed) under very difficult circumstances due to lack of proper transportation & funding through state government agencies then still operating thru post office Dept
