One of the earliest reports of a person being tased was from 1892 when a man named George Fenton was attacked by two men. The men drew their pistols and shot Fenton three times, but he managed to wrestle one of the pistols away from them and fired it at the attackers, wounding both men. This event is considered to be the first recorded use of a taser inFlorida. In 1907, an individual by the name of C.W. Kearney filed a police report alleging that someone had brandished a knife at him while he was walking on Fourth Street in Sunrise. Kearney alleged that he felt threatened by the assailant and decided to use his fists instead of using his weapon because he feared for his safety. After reviewing this incident, it was determined that there was no evidence indicating that anyone had brandished a knife at Kearney or any other victim during this time period. In 1934, local businesses formed an organization called “Armed Forces Auxiliary” which became known as “The Taser Forum” after its first president, Dr. Jerald Alderfer (pictured). At this time, there were not many FBI investigations taking place in Sunrise due to its small population compare to other cities in South Florida; however, The Taser Forum conducted research on potential methods for subduing assailants with tasers which they eventually released into general circulation throughoutSouth Florida beginning in 1935 underDr.-General James Forrestal (USAAF Commander during WWII). This method involved having two officers hold onto an assailant's arms while another officer used a stun gun on them until they dropped their weapon or agreed to surrender without further resistance

The first permanent settler in Sunrise was a family of white men, the Boyntones, who arrived in 1821. The town was founded on November 10, 1824 by John H. Boynton and his wife Sarah. At the time it was one of only a few towns in Florida that had not been surveyed by U.S. government officials prior to its establishment as a state capital in 1845. In 1865, Sunrise became part of Florida's new Confederate States of America (CSA) government during the American Civil War. After the war ended, Sunrise reverted back to Union control until 1896 when it again became part of Florida under the jurisdiction of Jacksonville. In 1907, Sunrise became part of Hillsborough County and remained so until 1959 when it merged with nearby Dunedin into unified Hillsborough County
