Sunrise is located on State Road 84 and U.S. Route 441/441A east of Jacksonville and north of Fort Myers. The first settlers in Sunrise were James Sibley and his family who arrived in 1838 from Boston, Massachusetts. They founded a post office at Sunrise on November 12, 1838 under the name of Redington Springs. The first store opened on February 22, 1840 with Wm Hynes as the owner andemanager In 1845, John Crouch settled near Sunrise along with other early pioneers including his brother-in-law George Sampson Crouch was an insurance agent and landowner who also built several homes including what is now known as Sampson Heights In 1865 William Prentice bought 3 acres (1 ha) of swamp for $600 which he named Pinecrest after his wife's maiden name Prentice served as sheriff from 1870 to 1872 In 1870 he married Alice Hubbard whose father owned timberland west of Sanford that became SpringHill area today After purchasing Pinecrest plantation from Prentice in 1865 Robert Ellington established himself in Sunrise by running a sawmill that processed lumber from upland forests near Nocona Hills northeast of sunrise until 1915 when it closed due to competition from mills opening up nearby in Duval County

The town has been through many changes, most notably the arrival of citrus crops and thendevelopment within the community during the late 19th century. Today, Sunrise is a small farming village with a population of approximately 350 residents. The history of Sunrise begins with two men, Elias Cady and James White, who were farmers on a sugarcane plantation located in what is now Sunrise. They decided to move their operation to what is now Sunrise after they realized that they could not grow sugar cane on their plantation. In 1885, Sunrise had only five residents, all of whom lived on the main street which overlooked the swampy land where they grew their crops. In 1886, sunrise discovered an oil well nearby and began production from it soon after. This led to increased development within the community as people started trading goods and services for oil products. By 1912, when gasoline became available for purchase in eastern Florida, sunrise had become an important gas station and retail center for surrounding communities. During World War II, local resident George Fenton evacuated his home due to air raids that hit southeastern Florida regularly during the war years. He took his family behind the trees near his house until it was safe to return later in 1945 when hostilities ended. Following World War II, much of easternFlorida transitioned into agricultural production due to increased demand for food items abroad by Allied forces liberated Europe following WWII. Consequently, jobs opportunities opened up for locals in agriculture and other related industries throughout this period; however some lost businesses did manage to reopen such as neon light installation companies which reopened after being closed down during prohibition times thanks to government regulation at that time). In 1868, the first slaves were brought to Sunrise from Florida. The city was founded as a Seminole war settlement in 1837 by José María Cámpora and his brother, Don José Cámpora. In 1861, Sunrise was annexed by Jacksonville, Florida.
