The history of gun magazines in Sunrise, Florida began with the first magazine published in the town on July 1, 1892. The paper was called "The Sentinel" and it was published by G.W. Fenton and Sons. It was a weekly paper and it served as the local armory to the community. In 1905, The Sentinel merged with another local paper, "The Daily Review", to form "Sunrise Daily Review". In 1928, "The Daily Review" merged with another local paper, "The Gazette", to form "Sunrise Gazette". In 1951, both papers were purchased by Hearst Corporation and they became part of their morning newspaper division known as the Herald-Sun Newspapers. Hearst Corporation then sold those papers back to their respective owners in 1976. From 1976 until 1995, Sunrise had two daily newspapers which were known as the Sunrise Herald-Sun & Sun Enterprise News respectively. Beginning on October 1st of that year however, all three papers changed their name to Thesuncoast Times under new ownership. On December 3rd of that year however, Hearst Corporation announced they would no longer be publishing any morning newspapers in Florida due to declining readership levels within that state; this left Sunrise without its morning newspaper service for the first time since 1978. On January 1st of 1997 however, Sunrise finally regained its morning newspaper service through purchase of two other Morning Journal Newspapers from Stahler Communications including one located in Naples and one located in West Palm Beach which served as a combined front page news service for both communities throughout Broward County only Today there are still three daily newspapers serving Sunrise: The Suncoast Times (the original name), The Herald-Sun Newspapers (the current name) and Thetimescom (the new name). All three papers continue to print editions every day except Saturday which is an automated publication operated by Stahler Communications..

The 1940s were a time of great growth for Sunrise thanks to World War II and the establishment of nearby Naval Air Station Miramar as one of the most important airfields in Florida during this time period. Today, sunrise is a vibrant community that continues to grow with new businesses opening up each year. Thanks to its location close to major metropolitan areas and access to many cultural attractions, sunrise has become an extremely popular tourist destination for residents and visitors alike!
The name Sunrise comes from the Spanish word "sunsets," which means "the sun's first light." In 1848, General Antonio López de Santa Anna was elected president of Mexico and his predecessor, Santa Anna had offered incentives to settlers in what is now Florida for them to move. In 1855, the U.S. military occupied Pensacola Bay and renamed it Fort Myers after Major General Zachary Taylor, who had been commandant of West Point at that time. The following year, Congress passed a bill giving land west of Tampa Bay to the Seminole Tribe of Tampa for their tribal center there. Soon afterwards, developers began building roads and homes near Fort Myers Beach on Sunrise Island. In 1907, after several years of construction work on Sunrise Boulevard (now part of Interstate 4), the first gasoline stations were built in Sunrise by J. Prentice Coleman and Wm. Kincaid respectively; this opened up areas east of downtown that were once farmland or swampy wetlands but are now developed areas with stores and restaurants close toI-4 exits/interchanges
