In 1887, Sunrise was founded by two entrepreneurs, John F. Kennedy and George A. Clements. The town was established on the east bank of the St Johns River in Jacksonville, Florida. In 1912 Sunrise became a city with a population of over 100,000 people. On November 3rd 1907, President Theodore Roosevelt visited Sunrise to inaugurate the First American National Bank in Sunrise. The bank served as a model for many subsequent banks in the area and played an important role in financial stability during the Great Depression era. In 1928, Sunrise received its own municipally-owned television station which began airing programming from Jacksonville's KXTG-TV. In 1951, Sunrise voters passed a referendum approving annexation by Jacksonville which made it one of the city's first "incorporations."
Sunrise, Florida is a small town in Polk County, Florida that was founded in 1837. The population of Sunrise at the 2010 census was 9,814. The Fort Walton Beach Census Bureau reported that the population of Sunrise increased to 10,441 as of 2018. Sunrise is located on State Road 9 latitude 41°-15' and longitude 8°-30' W. In 1837, five men from Jacksonville built a cabin on a bluff overlooking the Gulf of Mexico and made their first real attempt to set up permanent residence in what would become Sunrise. At the time it was thought that there were no land grants or other forms of title east of Mobile Bay so settlers built their cabins on high ground with views down to the gulf for themselves and their horses which they milked fordincliftly drove out overland from Jacksonville every day! In 1861 when Florida became an Confederate States of America (CSA), sunrise's location became important because it formed part of Confederate General James Longstreet's artillery battery stationed at Fort Brooke near Pensacola until his surrender in 1865. When Union General Ulysses S. Grant reached Mobile Bay late in April 1865 he found his batteries dismantled but all four cannons still standing - one by sunrise each side of fort Brooke - evidence that this area had once been a major Confederate artillery base during the war years while also providing some insight into mobile warfare techniques used by Union forces during this period not known to have been revealed until much later. After Reconstruction ended in 1865, most former Confederates left south Alabama for refuge in Georgia where many settled before returning home after Reconstruction terminated; however, members of General Longstreet's battery continued to live and fight briefly under Federal command at Fort Brooke before being destroyed by order from Confederate Major-General John Troup along with any remaining cannon following his capitulation at Selma on December 12th, 1865. The post office called Sunrise "Hebron" until 1888 when it changed its name to "Sunrise" due to competition from more developed towns such as Hebaland which had received earlier US postal service improvements including mail train service between Hebaland and Mobile Bay starting in 1887; however local newspapers continued referring to Sunrise as "Hebron" until July 1927 when it reverted back to "Sunrise". Sunrise, Florida was founded on November 1, 1845 and became a U.S. State on December 3 of that year. The name Sunrise comes from the Spanish word "sundown" which means the time when the sun goes down in South America. The town was originally called Tolemacum and changed its name to Sunrise in 1845 because of its proximity to Pensacola, Florida. In 1861, during the American Civil War, General John F. Kennedy set up a military post at Sunrise and it remained an active military base until 1991 when it was closed by the United States government because of budget cuts. Today, Sunrise is a small town with a population of around 100 people who live primarily within its borders. The first settlers in Sunrise were men Philipson and Sayers who arrived on horseback from Georgia in 1846. They built a log cabin near what is now downtown Sunrise while they awaited news of Houston's victory over Mexico in that year's Battle of Buena Vista Field. In 1850, James Aiken arrived from Jacksonville with his family and began farming near present-day Interstate 95 east of where he currently lives. He also operated a blacksmith shop along US Highway 27 north of town for many years before moving to Gulf Breeze in 1907 and becoming president (1896-1901) or vice president (1901-1907) of Gulf Breeze Naval Air Station . In 1905, Captain Harry Waddell established Pensacola Naval Air Station at sunrise just south of town Limits on Clearwater Beach making it one of the first naval air stations in existence outside Great Britain or North America! It served as home to World War II U2 pilots including Edward "Buzz" Aldrin who flew atop an early prototype Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter jet known as "Eagle One". Gulf Breeze Naval Air Station closed its doors following World War II but reopened as duty control facility for NAS Miami after hostilities ended there on September 2, 1945 under commandant Edwin Biddle Liebermann Jr.. It remains open today as NAS Miami's main mission area today! On May 16th 1947 local business man Willy Duke met Governor Lawton Chiles at Clearwater beach while both were touringNASMiami after Hurricane Andrew had hit Hardeeville three days earlier killing more than 60 people! After their meeting Chiles ordered all state flags flown at half staff throughout the state due to inadequate emergency response efforts by local officials! On October 12th 1949 President Truman signed legislation establishing what would become Daytona Beach County which included parts northeast of Sunrise including much later Mastodon Springs Shopping Center located adjacent to NASMiami Marine Stadium!" Today most residents are retired or work part time jobs within their hometowns while others attend nearby schools like Naples High School & Daytona Beach Community College . Although significant portions have left for greener pastures elsewhere over time some key aspects have not changed such as politics being largely driven by money interests while neglecting community involvement; major roads running through town are still basically straight except for one bend near False Creek which has been slowly raised since then; progress has come slowly but surely since then despite some setbacks
The Sunrise, Florida area was first settled by Seminole Indians in the late 17th century. In 1821, Spanish governor Manuel Menéndez de Cámpora granted land to American settlers for a military post called Fort Moultrie. The fort was abandoned in 1826 after it was destroyed by Seminoles. In 1847, the United States acquired title to the fort from Spain and began construction of Fort Moultrie. The fort served as a base for U.S. troops during the Mexican-American War and as a garrison for Flaherty Island until 1898 when Mexico gained control of Cuba and Puerto Rico.
